Job Purpose

The Dietary Aide assists with food preparation in accordance with established procedural guidelines, as directed by the Food Service/Dietary Manager/Supervisor. The Cook prepares palatable, nutritionally sound meals that meet departmental policies, state and federal regulations, and the specific nutritional needs of residents. Ensures foods are prepared and served at proper temperatures and times. Works with the Director of Food Service to allocate resources efficiently to maintain residents' nutritional health and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in meal preparation, including salads, desserts, snacks, and between-meal nourishments.
• Follow diet orders and NPO diet instructions.
• Serve nourishments per procedural guidelines and properly store leftovers.
• Record menu substitutions and comply with infection control policies.
• Deliver trays and assist with serving beverages and making coffee/tea.
• Clean dining tables, work areas, and kitchen equipment regularly.
• Maintain proper storage, temperature records, and cleanliness of kitchen and food supplies.
• Operate kitchen equipment safely and according to instructions.
• Follow recipes and prepare meals in line with menu cycles, ensuring nutritional adequacy and presentation.
• Supervise kitchen staff assisting with food prep and cleaning, ensuring efficient use of supplies.
• Prepare food substitutes for residents' dietary preferences and monitor tray acceptance.
• Adhere to safety, sanitation, and emergency procedures, and participate in training and inspections.

• Participate in surveys and ongoing educational programs.
• Respect residents' rights and maintain confidentiality and integrity.
• Comply with safety, infection control, and occupational hazard policies.
• Respond promptly to issues and communicate effectively with staff and residents.
• Understand emergency procedures and facility policies.

Minimum Education Required

Sufficient education to demonstrate functional literacy.

Minimum Experience Required

At least one (1) year of institutional food service experience as a cook.

Additional Qualifications

Experience in long-term care food production is preferred.
