Job Purpose

The Dietary Aide assists with food preparation according to established guidelines under the supervision of the Food Service/Dietary Manager or Supervisor. The Cook prepares nutritious, appealing meals in compliance with policies, regulations, and dietary needs, ensuring proper temperature and timing. Works with the Director of Food Service to efficiently allocate resources, ensuring residents receive appropriate food in terms of quantity, type, and timing to support their health and quality of life.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Assist in meal preparation, including salads, desserts, snacks, and nourishments between meals.
  2. Follow diet orders and NPO instructions.
  3. Serve nourishments and record menu substitutions as per guidelines.
  4. Store leftovers properly and adhere to infection control policies.
  5. Deliver trays and assist with serving beverages.
  6. Clean dining and kitchen areas, including equipment and utensils.
  7. Maintain proper food storage and record temperatures of refrigeration units.
  8. Operate kitchen equipment safely and according to manufacturer instructions.
  9. Follow recipes and prepare food in accordance with menu cycles, ensuring nutritional adequacy and presentation.
  10. Supervise kitchen staff assisting with food prep and cleaning, ensuring efficient use of supplies.
  11. Prepare substitutes to accommodate dietary preferences and monitor resident acceptance.
  12. Comply with safety, sanitation, and infection control standards.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Participate in surveys and required reports.
  • Attend ongoing education and maintain certifications.
  • Respect residents’ rights and uphold confidentiality and dignity.
  • Adhere to safety and infection control procedures.
  • Respond promptly to issues and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Understand emergency procedures and facility policies.
Minimum Education & Experience
  • Sufficient literacy skills.
  • At least 1 year of institutional food service experience as a cook.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in long-term care food production is preferred.
