Job summary

Rockford Rescue Mission is seeking a dedicated full-time cook to prepare meals for residents and guests, following established recipes and safety standards in a kitchen setting.

As part of a faith-based ministry, you will contribute to a Christ-centered environment, support chapel activities, and share the Gospel while maintaining quality and safety in all food service duties.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement High School or GED.
• Must have a food sanitation certificate.
• Must work required hours.
• Must adhere to Rockford Rescue Mission policies.
• Must engage in safe and healthy work practices.
• Must take an active part ensuring the safety, health and well-being of all staff, volunteers, and Mission guests.

• Represent RRM in a Christlike manner to all visitors and donors.

Rockford Rescue Mission considers every position one of ministry and a vital part of our team. Therefore, it is

essential that all staff of RRMM have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and subscribe to our

Statement of Faith and Core Values. Additionally, staff must be willing to lead and/or participate in Bible

study, prayer, devotions, chapel and sharing the Gospel.

Mission Statement: Rockford Rescue Mission shares hope and help in Jesus’ name to move people from

homelessness and despair toward personal and spiritual wholeness.

$17.25 an hour

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

To prepare and cook meals for residents and guests of the Rescue Mission.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Requires knowledge of kitchen equipment. Requires working in and around hot and cold environments and handling of sharp objects.

A. COOKING

1. Cook and prepare required meals for your shift.
2. Share ideas with the Food Service Supervisor concerning menu planning.
3. Abide by guidelines set forth by the Health Department.

B. CLEANING

1. Keep the kitchen and surrounding food service areas clean and well organized.
2. Ensure completion of the cleaning of the kitchen and the food service equipment according to the chore guidelines set by the Supervisor.
3. Cleaning stainless steel:
4. Wipe down stainless steel with wet towel and then go over with dry towel.
5. Use cleaner in water as Supervisor directs.

C. GENERAL DUTIES

1. Carry out all food service rules and regulations.
2. Work within the supervision and direction of the Food Service Supervisor.
3. Represent RRM in a Christlike manner to all visitors and donors.
4. Perform any other duties specified for you by the Food Service Supervisor.

D. PHYSICAL FACTORS

1. Lifting - ability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
2. Standing for extended periods of time.
3. Bending and reaching.
4. Ability to exercise caution and good judgment when working with sharp objects and around hot equipment and food.
5. Must adhere to Food Service dress code.

E. SPIRITUAL RESPONSIBLITIES

1. Take every opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with others.
2. Provide spiritual encouragement to donors, volunteers, staff, guests and residents.
3. Invest in the Spiritual development of staff, guests, residents, volunteers, and donors.
4. Pray for and with staff, volunteers, guests, residents, and donors.
5. Ensure actions and policies reflect the Christian values and purposes of the Mission.
6. Handle relational conflicts according to the Staff Covenant of Romans 12:18 and Matthew 18:15-19.
7. Memorize monthly Scripture, Mission Statement, and Mission Core Values.
8. Participate in corporate prayer and Scripture reading, staff chapel services, and all spiritual gatherings.
9. Support and attend annual mandatory Evangelism In Service training to grow in knowledge of leading others to faith in Christ.
10. Participate in annual spiritual growth training through organization selected curriculum.

F. QUALIFICATIONS
