Base pay range

$21.00/hr - $23.00/hr

General Summary

Is responsible for the storage, preparation of nutritious meals to child care programs using knowledge of agency, ESE, and Public Health code standards; promotes all aspects of quality food service; supervises cook assistant.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the safe storage, preparation and service of nutritious meals and snacks at the day care center, according to Nurtury (and other funding sources) guidelines.
  • Prepare and maintain written records pertaining to the food service operation according to Nurtury (and other funding sources) guidelines.
  • Supervise the Cook Assistant, which includes coordination of work schedules, tasks, and training him/her to order and prepare food.
  • Maintain established standards for sanitation, safety and food preparation according to Nurtury (and other funding sources) guidelines and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Article X sanitary codes.
  • Participate in nutrition education activities for children, parents and staff, as appropriate.
  • Attend meeting and participate in monthly in-service training sessions.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions:

  • Ability to read, write and follow verbal instructions in English.
  • Maintain records and prepare written reports.
  • Experience in quantity cooking.
  • Valid ServSafe Certification
  • Demonstrated math skills, necessary for record keeping.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must conform to Commonwealth of Massachusetts Public Health Title X and dress codes.
