JOB TITLE: Cook 4 hrs

Job Summary:

The job of "Cook" is performed under the direction of the Food Services Manager, involving cooking, baking, preparing, and distributing food service items for students and school personnel, as well as maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.

Essential Job Functions:

While staff in this position will be trained to back up other cooks with more hours to cover absences, the primary responsibility each day will be dishwashing.

  • Prepares and serves food and beverage items to meet mandated nutritional requirements, projected meal needs, planned menus, and catering needs.
  • Cleans and maintains utensils, equipment, and areas used for storage, food preparation, and serving to ensure safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Prepares required documentation and reports to provide support and convey information.
  • Requests food, equipment, and supplies to maintain an adequate inventory for efficient job completion.
  • Maintains positive relations with students, staff, and the community to support positive interactions within the district and food services program.
  • Handles cash transactions accurately to maintain proper monetary records.

Other Job Functions:

  • Assists other personnel as needed to support their work activities.
  • Maintains prompt and regular attendance.

Qualifications:

Experience Required: Bilingual/Bicultural preferred. Prior food preparation experience is helpful but not required.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

  • Skills to perform basic arithmetic, operate and care for institutional kitchen equipment (e.g., industrial food slicer, mixers, ovens, dishwashers), and use standard office and computer equipment.
  • Knowledge of modern food preparation methods, health codes, and sanitation principles.
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, provide direction, make independent judgments, maintain accurate records, and understand oral and written instructions. Physical abilities include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, stooping, reaching, handling, manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Licenses, Certifications, and Checks: Oregon Fingerprint and Criminal Check clearance, Food Handler Permit.

Schedule: School year, Monday - Friday, 4 hours per day, aligned with the 2025-2026 Nutrition calendar.

Bilingual/Bicultural preferred.
