Job summary

Holy Name Medical Center in Teaneck, NJ is seeking a Cook, 2nd to join our hospital kitchen team. You will prepare a variety of patient and cafeteria meals, follow standardized recipes, and maintain food safety and quality standards.

The role requires a High School Diploma (or equivalent) and 3 years of cooking experience, with preference for Cook Chill experience and a culinary degree. Competency in safety, equipment operation, and teamwork is essential.

A Brief Overview

Performs a variety of tasks and operations to prepare and cook a limited number of food items for meal service, follow standard procedures and practices to comply with regulatory agencies.

What You Will Do
  • Assemble supplies, food and equipment for daily preparation. Setup and prepare equipment for use.
  • Follow standardized recipes when cooking. Maintains established procedures in food preparation to achieve goals for quality and nutritional value. Evaluate preparation and recommend changes
  • Set-up foods on patient/cafeteria line following written diagrams. Performs tasks as needed to facilitate work flow in kitchen areas
  • Maintains established department policies and procedures, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
  • Alerts Purchasing/Production Coordinator to needs and problems in supplies, equipment and prepared food
  • Maintains time and temperature records as required
  • Uses equipment properly as instructed based on manufacturer's guidelines
  • Uses safety equipment when slicing, dicing, cutting and working with heat
  • Assists in care and maintenance of work areas, supplies and equipment.
  • Attends in-service meetings as required.
  • Demonstrates compliance with Holy Name Hospital dress codes and policies
  • Observes Hospital policy concerning Fire and safety regulations, Infection Control Standards, smoking restrictions, telephone usage and other rules governing conduct.
  • Reports to work on time at start of shift and after breaks
  • Provide proper notice in advance of absence or tardiness
Education Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required and
  • Trade/Vocational School culinary degree Preferred
Experience Qualifications
  • Three years cooking experience, with some Cook Chill experience preferred Preferred
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Knowledge of cooking methods and procedures, kitchen equipment and various types of preparation.
  • Ability to stand, bend, stoop on a consistent basis (High proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • SAFE Serve Certification Serve Safe Certification Upon Hire Preferred
