What You'll Do

The Department of Youth Services provides stability, support, safety, and security for all employees of DYS. The Cook 2 will provide valuable services to the Youth we serve.

Specifically, The Cook 2 Will
  • Work under direction with thorough knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, storage, and operation of food service equipment to prepare and serve food for the Ohio Department of Youth Services (DYS) Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility. Responsibilities include preparation and cooking of foods, monitoring service lines, loading carts, storing foods, and general cleaning. Operate commercial/standard kitchen equipment, mix salads, make desserts, dressings, breads, prepare hot and cold beverages, and special menu items. Slice meats and cheeses, make sandwiches, assemble fruit plates and relish trays, clean and cut vegetables and meats before cooking, and ensure safety and sanitation of the work area. Supervise youth workers assigned to the work area.
  • Set up food lines and portions according to dietary requirements, prepare food carts based on recipes, maintain safety and sanitation, pack leftovers for storage, and secure food storage areas and utensils.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending meetings, trainings, and seminars related to food preparation.

Formal education in arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) and at least 6 months of training or experience in food preparation, sanitation, storage, and use of food service equipment in institutional, school, or restaurant settings are required.

  • Or equivalent of the Minimum Class Qualifications for Employment noted above.
