Job summary

The State of Iowa - Executive Branch is seeking a Cook 1 for the Woodward Resource Center to join our team. This full-time role involves preparing meals for up to 500 individuals, following recipes, and ensuring safe, high-quality food service in a busy facility. Shifts are 8 hours per day between 6:00 a.m.

Qualifications

  • Experience equal to one year of full-time quantity food production in a commercial, military, hospital, or institutional setting.
  • Or successful completion of a military, vocational, or community college program in commercial cooking.
  • Or employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes experience equal to six months of full-time work as a Food Service Worker.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of delicious and nutritious meals for up to 500 individuals.
  • Following recipes to prepare a variety of menu items including entrees, vegetables, baked goods, and salads, utilizing commercial food service equipment.
  • Adapting food textures to meet the needs of individuals with dysphagia, ensuring everyone can enjoy their meals safely and comfortably.
  • Monitoring and maintaining food temperatures while adhering to safe food handling techniques to meet food safety standards.
  • Completing necessary record-keeping tasks such as temperature logs and recipe feedback.
  • Serving food with care and attention to detail; and
  • Contributing to a clean and sanitary kitchen environment through daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks.

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Woodward Resource Center (WRC) is seeking a Cook 1 to join our team! This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position with variable scheduling of 8 hours per day between 6:00 a.m. and 5:45 p.m., including weekends, and opportunity for advancement, growth, and development.
