Job summary

Millersville University is seeking a Cook 1 to support student dining, catering, and conferences on a full-time basis. You will grill, bake, steam, sauté, and fry foods while maintaining sanitation and safe operation of kitchen equipment.

The position offers an hourly rate of $18.83 and a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage, life insurance, retirement plans, tuition waiver, paid time off, and more.

Qualifications

  • One year of cooking or quantity food production experience.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare ingredients and cook food in large quantities.
  • Prepare meats for cooking and final products.
  • Prepare menu items for student meals and catering events.

  • Clean and sanitize utensils, equipment and facilities.
  • Train food service workers as needed.
  • Assist with inventory, requisitions, and recipe files.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Mixing, chopping, dicing, grating, slicing, assembling food inpreparation for cooking, baking, or assembling, grilling, baking,steaming, or frying foods.
  • Prepare meats for cooking:
    • Skinning, boning, trimming, stuffing, etc., as well as cookingthe final product.
  • Prepares menu items for student meals in Gordinier and LyleDining Halls and catering functions in-house and off-campus.
  • Maintain records for the Service Summary Reports.
  • Cleaning and sanitation of utensils, equipment, andfacilities.
  • May function as lead worker by coordinating, participating inand reviewing routine food production tasks performed by foodservice workers or student workers.
  • Can train food service workers or student workers in routinefood production tasks.
  • Prepare requisitions for cooking ingredients and supplies
  • Maintain recipe files.
  • Check attendance for staff in the area.
  • All other duties as assigned.
SAFETY
  • Work safely by using Personal Protective Equipment, maintainingequipment, following safety procedures and policies, etc.
  • Leave the work area clean and functional at the end ofshift
  • Be aware of and report any potential safety hazards tosupervisor or management immediately
  • Cooperate with safety investigations and audits
  • Attend safety training sessions and maintain licenses,certifications, etc.
Required Qualifications
  • One year experience in cooking or quantity commercial orinstitutional food production or equivalent combination ofexperience and/or training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cooking ingredients, food productionsafety & sanitation.
  • Experience:
    • Preparing ingredients and cooking food items on a quantitybasis.
    • Reading and interpreting recipes
    • Performing recipe extensions.
    • Operating modern kitchen equipment.
    • Garnishing and presenting food for buffets and studentdining.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communicationskills.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diversestudent populations.
  • Successful interview.
  • Successful completion of three background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree from a qualified Culinary or Food ServiceInstitution.
  • Experience as a restaurant cook.
