Qualifications

• 2 years of experience in food prep, cooking and kitchen operations.
• Food Safety Manager Certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
• Valid Driver's License and Insurance required.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently cook meals and snacks according to established recipes and guidelines.
• Serve nutritious, visually appealing meals to residents and staff.
• Maintain health and safety standards and sanitize surfaces and equipment.
• Order, rotate, and stock kitchen items according to guidelines.
• Train and coordinate kitchen staff and shelter staff as needed.
• Maintain accurate temperature and cleaning logs as part of daily duties.

Firefly Children & Family Alliance is hiring a full-time Cook 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana.The Cook 1 provides oversight for daily kitchen functioning ensuring nutritious, visually appealing meals are prepared and served according to the guidelines set forth by the Board of Health, licensing requirements and Agency procedures.Responsibilities include meal and snack prep and production, mainten ance of health and safety standards, inventory management and organization, appliance functionality, training and coordination for kitchen and shelter staff as needed. Working closely with the Kitchen Supervisor, the Head Cook may suggest new recipes, menus or help coordinate meals and or snacks for business related meetings or special on-site events.

You Will:

Cooking and Cleaning (90%)

• Efficiently prepare meals and snacks according to established recipes and guidelines
• Serve visually appealing and palatable meals and snacks to residents and staff
• Ability to comprehend and meet dietary needs of residents with special nutritional requirements
• Order, rotate, and stock kitchen items according to guidelines and avoid potentially hazardous conditions
• Ensure dishes, prep surfaces, storage and appliances are clean and sanitized
• Display respect for and consistently follow FSSA, DOE and Firefly compliance practices
• Effectively prioritize and manage time with ability to multitask effectively

Accurate Record Keeping (10%)

• Maintain accurate temperature logs for food storage
• Complete cleaning logs on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis
• Prepare orders based on kitchen need weekly
• Maintain active Food Safety certification and complete required Agency trainings

You Have:

• High School Diploma
• Must be at least 21 years of age
• 2 Years of experience in food prep, cooking and kitchen operations
• Food Safety Manager Certification and/or ability to pass Certification within 60 days of hire
• Skilled organizational abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient use of computer and Microsoft suite software applications
• Flexibility in scheduling
• Ability to work with minimal direct supervision or with other team members as needed
• Adept knowledge of cooking, cleaning and sanitization practices within a commercial kitchen and utilization of commercial appliances
• Valid Driver's License and Insurance is required
