Job summary

MercyOne Waterloo in Iowa is seeking a Cook to join our Food Service team. You will prepare high quality, safe foods for staff, visitors, patients and physicians in a fast-paced hospital setting, following MercyOne standards and food safety guidelines.

The role is full-time (0.8 FTE, 32 hours weekly) with rotating shifts, weekends and holidays required. A minimum of 1 year of food service experience or equivalent education is preferred, and good communication in English is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 1 year food service experience or a combination of formal education and experience beyond high school.
• Reading, writing and understanding English, and communicating effectively with staff and patients.
• Ability to maintain a professional image and work at a fast pace.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food according to guidelines.
• Demonstrates knowledge of and compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations.
• Operates, cleans and sanitizes equipment.
• Supplies high quality and attractive food
• Assists supervisor in ordering JIT foods/supplies.

General Requirements

• Requires the ability to read, write and understand the English language, and communicate effectively with patients, visitors, staff and physicians while performing their job duties
• Minimum of 1 year food service experience or a combination of formal education and experience beyond high school.
• Intermediate language, intermediate math, intermediate reasoning ability.
• Ability to maintain a professional positive image and to work effectively with the public.
• Ability to maintain a fast pace of work.

Education

• High School diploma preferred but not required.
