Job summary

Sasha Bruce Youthwork in Washington, DC is seeking a Cook to provide fresh meals for youth and staff at residential group homes. This full-time role includes budgeting and grocery duties within program budgets.

The Cook will prepare breakfast and dinner for up to 15 youths, follow recipes, ensure food safety, and maintain a clean, safe kitchen. A High School diploma or GED and 3 years of cooking experience, plus a valid Food Handler's Permit, are required.

Qualifications

• 3 years of hands-on cooking experience.
• Valid Food Handler's Permit.
• Must be able to stand, lift, and manage equipment weighing 20 to 25 pounds.
• Must be able to gain and sustain various background and clearance checks.
• Must have and maintain a current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Must be detailed oriented and able to multi-task.
• Ability to work extra hours, attend meetings/trainings when needed.

Responsibilities

• Ensures ingredients and final products are fresh.
• Follows recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients.
• Bakes, grills, steams and boils meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods.
• Presents, garnishes, and arranges final dishes.
• Occasionally serves food.
• Maintains the budget and purchases bi-weekly groceries for two facilities.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes.
• Assists in transporting youth as needed.
• Engages with youth in a variety of activities.
• Supports youth in achieving daily goals, building life skills, and problem solving.

Job Summary:

The Cook is responsible for preparing/providing fresh nutritional meals to clients and staff in one or more residential group home facility for youth and young adults. They also are tasked to order, and pick-up groceries as budgeted for the programs and/or deliver nutritional meals to a specified group home/worksite.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Prepares and cooks breakfast and dinner for up to 15 youth to includemeals for residents with restricted diets.
• Ensures ingredients and final products are fresh.
• Follows recipes, including measuring, weighing, and mixing ingredients.
• Bakes, grills, steams and boils meats, vegetables, fish, poultry, and other foods.
• Presents, garnishes, and arranges final dishes.
• Occasionally serves food.
• Ensures food supplies and all equipment meet State Health Department regulations and standards.
• Maintains the budget and purchases bi-weekly groceries for two facilities.
• Maintains a clean and safe work area, including handling utensils, equipment, and dishes.
• Handles and stores ingredients and food.
• Labels all purchased food with purchase date.
• Organizes and keeps all cabinets, freezers, and the refrigerator clean.
• Ensures all freezers and refrigerators have thermostats.
• Assists with the upkeep of the whole facility, documenting and reporting all maintenance issues to management.
• Maintains food safety and sanitation standards.
• Provides on-site supervision, while maintaining professional boundaries, crisis intervention and counseling services to youth in residence at both Chloe House and Bruce House.
• Assists in transporting youth as needed.
• Engages with youth in a variety of activities.
• Supports youth in achieving daily goals, building life skills, and problem solving.
• Participates in required annual training required by the licensing agency and Program Manager.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualification:
