Job description

The Cook prepares, serves, and handles food in accordance with federal and state regulations and the residence policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Food and Inventory
    • Identifies and reports food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus.
    • Assists in the receiving, rotation, and storage of products.
    • Maintains clean and sanitized dining service areas.
  • Food Preparation and Dining Service
    • Prepares menus and cooks food in accordance with nutritional guidelines, regulations, and residents’ individual prescribed diet and food preferences.
    • Presents food in an appetizing and attractive manner.
    • Assists in fostering residents’ independence with eating by providing adaptive equipment when needed.
    • Ensures that food is delivered on time and in a pleasant manner.
    • Visits with residents at each meal when available and ensures quality service.
    • Prepares food and coordinates food service for special events as requested.
    • Notifies the nutrition coordinator of any malfunctioning kitchen equipment or appliances.
  • Regulatory Compliance and Sanitation
    • Ensures compliance with local health department regulations and the community policies and procedures.
    • Maintains a clean, organized and safe kitchen environment.
    • Ensures proper storage and handling of food in accordance with infection control standards.
  • Communications
    • Attends all regular staff meetings and required training sessions.
    • Effectively communicates information pertaining to the residents on a “need to know” basis to other team members according to the community policies and procedures.
    • Notify your supervisor or the clinical director if you observe a change in a resident’s condition.
    • Accountable for compliance, excellence and delivery of resident care in adherence with organization, local, state and federal regulations.
    • Maintains a positive and professional manner toward residents, visitors, families and co-workers.
    • Adheres to all policies and procedures of Ohio Living.
Qualifications
  • Education
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Obtain/hold any local, state and/or county required food handling/sanitation licenses and/or certificates.
    • Maintains a current ServSafe certificate (food services sanitation certificate) or able to participate in the food services sanitation training to become ServSafe certified.
  • Experience
    • One (1) year job‑related experience including food preparation, full‑line menu items and therapeutic diets.
    • Experience in cooking for large groups.
  • Other Requirements
    • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Physical Job Requirements
  • Stand/walk up to two hours a day.
  • Sit up to eight hours a day.
  • Frequently support up to 30 pounds.
  • Frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequently kneel, bend, and reach.
