Job summary

Gulf Coast JFCS is seeking a dedicated Food Service Worker to prepare meals for clients with attention to dietary needs, assist with special function catering, and maintain clean, safe kitchen operations. You will follow approved menus, manage diet-specific portions, and support timely meal delivery.

The role requires high school completion and cooking experience, with ServSafe Manager and CPR/First Aid certifications preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with one year cooking experience in large-scale setting.
• ServSafe Manager certification preferred/required for the role.
• CPR and First Aid certifications must be obtained/maintained.

Responsibilities

• Review daily posted menus and prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner
• Prepare meals according to modified diets and portion sizes
• Serve clients meals per their diets in neat, attractive manner
• Prepare meals for special functions or holidays
• Operate equipment such as stove, grill, oven, microwave, processor and slicer safely
• Record all menu changes with approval of Food Service Coordinator
• Ensure timely completion of order forms
• Clean equipment and maintain workspace and storeroom
• Respond to emergencies and notify relevant parties
• Perform other duties as assigned

What You Will Do

• Review daily posted menus and prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner
• Prepare meals according to modified diets and controlled portion sizes
• Serves clients meals in accordance with their diets in a neat and attractive manner
• Prepare meals for special functions or holidays
• Operate equipment such as stove, grill, conventional oven, microwave, food processor and meat slicer in a safe manner
• With the approval of the Food Service Coordinator, record all menu changes
• Ensure concise and timely completion of all order forms
• Clean equipment properly according to correct procedures
• Keep workstation and store room clean and organized
• Respond to emergencies and notify applicable parties as needed, including emergency services
• Perform all other duties as assigned

What You Will Need

• High school graduate or equivalent and one (1) year of cooking experience in a large-scale restaurant or healthcare setting, preferred
  • Food Certification is highly desirable
• Must obtain/maintain certification as a ServSafe Manager
• Must obtain/maintain certification in CPR and First Aid
• Endure short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of standing
• Ability to lift and/or carry equipment, supplies, etc. up to 60 lbs.
• Must wear personal protective equipment as required by the exposure control plan and safety program
• Bilingual: English/Spanish or English/Haitian Creole/French, highly recommended to meet the language demands of most clients. preferred
• Must provide proof of Immunization for: Varicella (2 doses), MMR (2 doses), Influenza (1 dose yearly), and Tdap (1 dose)
