Job summary

Dial Senior Living in Springfield, MO is seeking a dedicated Cook to join our kitchen team. You will independently prepare meals, support the Sous or Executive Chef, and ensure high quality, safe food production for residents.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurants, strong knowledge of food safety, and the ability to follow menus, adapt recipes, and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting.
• Knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines.
• State food-handling regulations.
• ServeSafe or equivalent certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook a variety of meals for residents with attention to quality and presentation.
• Alter or adapt recipes to accommodate special dining needs of residents or to improve recipes.
• Ensure attractive presentation of food on the plate before serving.
• Identify food and supplies needed for the next week’s menus and report to the supervisor.
• Participate in new menu and special menu planning.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas.
• Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control.
• Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery.
• Assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed.
• Notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances.
• Record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website.
• Record ready-to-use food items into the TELS website; three items per meal.
• Report on-the-job injuries to supervisor before end of shift.

• Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area and kitchen/storage areas.
• Ensure proper handling, labeling and storage of food for infection control.
• Prepare meats for storage and portion control upon delivery. Ensure proper storage of all delivered foods and ingredients.
• Assist with dishwashing and kitchen sanitation, as needed.
• Notify manager of food supply needs and malfunctioning equipment or appliances.
• Assist in the recording of Ready to Use food items into the TELS website. Three items should be recorded for every meal.
• Record cooler, freezer and dish machine temperatures in the TELS website.
• Report any on-the-job injuries to the supervisor before the end of the work shift on the day the injury occurs.
• Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, community operations and personnel.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• 2+ years of cooking experience in senior living, healthcare, or restaurant setting

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

• Strong knowledge of food safety and dietary guidelines
• State food-handling and kitchen regulations
• Promote teamwork in providing services to residents.
• Operation of kitchen appliances (dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, coffee maker, ice machine, blender, food processor, meat slicer, mixer, etc.)
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

• ServeSafe or equivalent certification is preferred
