Job summary

McLean Affiliates is seeking a Cook to prepare, portion, cook, and present hot and cold items across breakfast, lunch, dinner, and events at Simsbury, CT. The role includes 32 hours weekly with an every-other-weekend rotation and a pay rate of $22.00–$27.00 per hour.

Responsibilities include maintaining sanitation, proper temperatures, stock rotation, and delivering excellent customer service. Must have 2+ years of related experience; Serv Safe preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of related work experience.
  • Serv Safe certification preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow recipes and maintain safe practices.

  • Regulate oven, broiler, grill, roaster temps for proper cooking.
  • Check food quality and rotate stock per labeling procedures.
  • Monitor cooking to ensure proper doneness using taste, smell, or thermometers.
  • Prepare stations as directed and follow company guidelines.
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, seafoods, and vegetables.
  • Prepare ingredients as recipes require and portion for service.
  • Serve food to customers in a timely manner.
  • Assist with inventory and communicate supply needs.

Pay Rate: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour

Hours: 32 hours - Days - with an every other weekend rotation

Location: Simsbury, CT

JOB OVERVIEW:

Our Cooks may work anywhere on the property where food is prepared. The cook will accurately and efficiently prepare, portion, cook, and present a variety of hot and/or cold food items for various meal periods: to include Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, and Special/Catered Events. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but other responsibilities of the position may be identified. These responsibilities may differ depending on business necessities and customer requirements.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Inspect and clean food preparation areas, such as equipment and work surfaces, or serving areas to ensure safe and sanitary food-handling practices.
  • Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and other equipment.
  • Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old and new items, rotating stock and following food company labeling & dating procedures.
  • Monitor, cook and prepare foods to determine if they have been cooked sufficiently, using methods such as tasting, smelling, or utilization of food thermometers.
  • Responsible for preparation of stations, as directed, according to company guidelines.
  • Bake, roast, broil, and steam meats, fish, vegetables, and other foods.
  • Season, weigh, measure, and mix ingredients according to recipes with guidance from supervisor, using various kitchen utensils and equipment.
  • Wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables to prepare for consumption.
  • Carve, trim and prepare meats and seafood for hot or cold service.
  • May bake breads, rolls, cakes, and pastries.
  • May wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, or other cooking equipment.
  • Compile and maintain records of food usage.
  • May assist with inventory.
  • Follow food specification amounts provided by supervisor. Assist in forecasting of preparation needs.
  • Prepare and serve food to customers in a timely manner.
  • May assist in supporting culinary staff at numerous stations as directed.
  • Communicate with supervisor regarding kitchen equipment/supply needs.
  • Adhere to and promote company standards for safety, proper food handling practices, sanitation, uniform guidelines, and productivity.
  • Provide excellent customer service to include being attentive, approachable, greeting and thanking customers.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
