Job summary

Friendship in Salem, VA seeks a Cook to join our Assisted Living team. You will prepare daily meals for residents, staff and visitors, monitor food handling and sanitation, and ensure safe usage of kitchen equipment.

This full-time position includes every other weekend and requires adherence to policies and forecasts. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or equivalent and Cook experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Cook experience preferred.
• Active role requiring standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and lifting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily meals for residents, staff and visitors.
• Monitor food handling, storage and serving.
• Correctly and safely uses kitchen equipment and utensils for food preparation, service and cleaning.
• Abide by facility policies and procedures related to food safety and sanitation.
• Prepare quality, nutritious foods by following direction and forecast sheets; handle special requests.
• Follow cleaning schedule for equipment and areas, including walls, floors and cooking equipment.
• Use communication sheets to inform staff of prepared foods and substitutions.
• Understand forecasting, work production and communication sheets.

Friendship is looking for a Cook to join our Friendship Assisted Living team, located in Salem, VA. The Cook is responsible for preparing daily meals for residents, staff and visitors. They will monitor food handling, storage and serving.

Shifts Available:

• Full-Time, shift varies and includes every other weekend
• Correctly and safely uses kitchen equipment and utensils for food preparation, service and cleaning
• Abide by facility policies and procedures as well as laws and regulations related to food safety and sanitation
• Prepares quality, nutritious foods by following direction/assignments; prepares special foods by request on forecast sheets
• Follows cleaning schedule of equipment and areas as assigned, to include walls, floors and cooking equipment
• Uses communication sheets to tell staff which foods have been prepared and seeks approval for any changes or substitutions
• Understands and uses forecasting, work production and communication sheets

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Cook experience preferred
• This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, and crouching all day. The employee must frequently lift or move objects weighing over 50 pounds
