Job summary

A Cook is responsible for handling and preparing food in accordance with approved menus, recipes, and sanitation standards. The employee may oversee the work of other dietary personnel and may assume additional responsibilities in the absence of the Director of Dietary Services or the Dietary Supervisor.

Essential duties include following recipes and production sheets, maintaining a clean work environment, monitoring food temperatures, assisting with purchasing and inventory, and cooperating

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Experience with food preparation.
• Demonstrated cooking skills and ability to follow menus and recipes.
• Ability to work well with others.
• Flexible, detail-oriented, able to multitask, meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Prepares or directs preparation of food served in the Center.
• Follows recipes, menus, and production sheets.
• Works cooperatively with dietary staff and Center personnel.
• Complies with established food handling regulations including dietary policies and procedures.
• Monitors and records food temperatures throughout the food preparation process.
• Maintains a clean working environment.
• Reports safety and equipment issues to the Director, Maintenance Director, or Administrator.
• Assists Director with purchasing, storage, or inventory as directed.
• Assists Director with maintaining electronic meal service information as directed.
• Attends in-service, department, or Center meetings as directed.
• Treats residents and staff with respect and patience.
• Reports illness and symptoms to Director of Dietary Services promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
