Job summary

Texas Rehabilitation of Plano, part of Lifepoint Health, seeks a Cook to prepare meals and support nutrition services in a brand-new hospital opening in 2026. You will ensure meals meet timing and dietary guidelines while collaborating with a Registered Dietitian.

The role emphasizes teamwork, food safety, and patient-centered service. Applicants should have high school diploma or GED and prior food service or healthcare exposure is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior food service or customer service experience with cooking experience preferred.
• Prior healthcare experience preferred but not required.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Prepare meals to specified times and test for proper seasoning.
• Consult with the Registered Dietitian on modified diets.
• Supervise Nutritional Services workers during food preparation.
• Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using kitchen equipment.
• Cook meats, fish and poultry using various methods; ensure dietary guidelines.
• Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and follow infection control policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Texas Rehabilitation of Plano is a brand-new 40 bed inpatient rehabilitation facility opening in 2026. We offer high-quality, compassionate care for a wide variety of patients in need. Our teams provide evidence-based, transformational care for a broad range of rehabilitation concerns in a compassionate, comfortable environment.

How you'll contribute

A Cook who excels in this role:

• Ensures meals are ready at the specified times and tests foods being cooked to ensure proper seasoning etc.
• Consults with the Registered Dietitian on modified diets, as necessary.
• Supervises Nutritional Services workers when washing, trimming or preparing food.
• Measures and mixes ingredients according to approved recipes, using blenders, mixers, grinders, slicers, etc.
• Makes sauces, soups, stews, casseroles and desserts meeting established dietary guidelines.
• Cooks meat, fish and poultry in a variety of ways such as baking, roasting, broiling and steaming.
• Maintains kitchen in a clean, neat and organized manner and adheres to all infection control policies and procedures.
• Other duties as assigned.
