The Cook will prepare and direct the preparation of food to be served to customers, ensuring high standards for quality, safety, and cleanliness.
Responsibilities
- Primary responsibility for preparing and cooking food as requested and ordered by customers, using established policies, protocols, and procedures.
- Maintain a clean and organized process for food preparation and cooking.
- Cook for various areas including dining room, banquet/conference rooms, customer pick‑up, delivery, and catering services.
- Replenish and organize food stocks and supplies, working with management to maintain inventory and reorder necessary items.
- Ensure safe food preparation, kitchen cleaning, and trash removal.
- Implement safety practices for food handling, including marking food items with expiration dates and preventing cross‑contamination.
- Maintain current knowledge of safe and healthy food handling practices and keep required food handling permit or ServSafe certification up to date.
- Unload incoming truck loads and assist in inventory and stocking of supplies.
- Conduct routine inspections of supplies, checking expiration dates and ensuring only fresh, safe food in refrigerators, freezers, and pantries.
- Maintain a healthy, clean kitchen, reporting equipment or supply issues to management.
- Communicate supply needs to management before depletion.
- Collaborate with co‑workers to provide exceptional customer service and timely, quality dishes.
- Handle customer complaints professionally and resolve concerns to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Maintain professional working relationships with co‑workers, vendors, and the public.
- Show proactive, positive, and sincere interest in customers and the community.
- Comply with all company policies, SOPs, departmental checklists, and other required rules.
- Follow safety and security practices, completing all daily checklists accurately.
- Complete required training and pass all necessary assessments.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
Position Requirements and Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- 1–2 years of experience as a Restaurant Cook.
- Knowledge of food and beverage service handling practices and food safety training; possession of current food handling permit and ServSafe certification.
- Knowledge of kitchen operations and safe operation of industrial kitchen equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with other employees.
- Professional demeanor, reliability, discretion, and good judgment.
- Ability to work near moving parts or in extreme hot or cold conditions.
- Potential exposure to toxic or caustic cleaning chemicals.
- Physical demands: speaking, hearing, seeing, standing for long periods, walking, reaching, using manual dexterity, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Regular attendance, with willingness to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to work flexible schedules and maintain punctuality.
