Position Summary:

The Cook will help to ensure that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner by assisting in all dietary functions and providing supervision to all dietary aides.

Position Summary:

In keeping with our organization’s goal of improving the lives of the Residents we serve, the Cook position is responsible for providing nourishing food to Residents and employees under sanitary conditions as directed and in accordance with established policies and procedures. The Cook will help to ensure that the dietary department is maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner by assisting in all dietary functions and providing supervision to all dietary aides.

Principal Duties And Responsibilities:
  • Provide nutritional meals to Residents, staff, and visitors as directed.
  • Plan meals sufficiently ahead to minimize the need for food substitutions.
  • Work closely with the facility’s Registered Dietitian to ensure meals meet residents’ nutritional needs. Make changes to meal plans when necessary with approval from the Food Services Director or Registered Dietitian.
  • Ensure food supplies are appropriate and place orders when necessary.
  • Oversee food tray line to ensure trays are prepared according to diet cards in an efficient manner to meet scheduled meal and snack times.
  • Provide supervision to dietary aides as directed.
  • Ensure sanitation policies and procedures are followed at all times in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Follow safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies.
  • Maintain a clean and hazard-free work area.
  • Properly store equipment, tools, and supplies at all times.
  • Report equipment malfunctions and supply needs to the supervisor.
  • Report hazardous conditions and accidents/incidents to the Food Services department.
  • Maintain Residents’ comfort, privacy, and dignity, interacting with warmth, respect, and care.
  • Communicate effectively and tactfully with Residents, visitors, families, peers, and supervisors.
  • Attend meetings, in-services, and continuing education as required.
  • Follow Infection Control guidelines and OSHA standards.
  • Protect Resident Rights by promoting dignity, reporting abuse, and supporting independence.
  • Perform other tasks as required.
Supervisory Responsibility

This position oversees the kitchen production and Dietary Aides.

Requirements
Education, Training, and Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Food Sanitation Certification preferred.
  • One year of experience as a Cook preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
  • Prepare and serve nutritious meals at proper times and temperatures, maintaining flavor and appearance.
  • Read, write, and follow instructions including calculations.
  • Basic knowledge of food service, sanitation, and safety.
