Levy Restaurants at the Memphis Zoo is seeking a Cook to prepare food for concessions and catered events in compliance with federal, state and corporate standards and policies. The role focuses on quality, safety, and timely service in a fast-paced environment.

The position involves following standardized recipes, proper portioning, temperature control, and maintaining an organized, sanitary kitchen while collaborating with staff and venue partners.

Responsibilities

• Prepares food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules.
• Serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring proper temperatures, attractive presentation, and taste.
• Follows established service communications; maintains records from area worked during service periods.
• Keeps kitchen clean and organized; stores/discards excess food per safe handling procedures.
• Ensures proper storage of food and supplies; operates and maintains kitchen equipment.

Summary

The cook at Memphis Zoo prepares food for concessions and/or catered events in accordance with applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines and regulations with established policies and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepares food items according to standardized recipes and instructions to meet production, delivery and service schedules.
• Serves meals or prepares for delivery by using correct portioning, meeting outlined standards, ensuring that food is at correct temperature, is attractive and tasty. Tastes all prepared food items.
• Uses established order and preparation communication procedures during service. Responsible for records from area worked during service periods.
• Cleans kitchen after preparation and serving, maintaining high standards of cleanliness. Stores/discards excess food in accordance with safe food-handling procedures.
• Keeps refrigerators and storerooms clean and neat.
• Ensures food & supply items are stored per standards.
• Operates and maintains kitchen equipment as instructed.
• Assists in production planning, record keeping and reporting as required.
• Assists in the ordering and receiving of all food and supplies as required.
• Reports needed maintenance, faulty equipment or accidents to the supervisor immediately.
• Attends in-service and safety meetings.
• Maintains good working relationships with coworkers, venue partners, and guests.
• Performs job safely while maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
• Ensures proper presentation, portion control and maintenance of serving temperatures; follows HACCP standards.
• Abides by ALL company safety policies, including wearing non-slip shoes and all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) based on work area and tasks performed.
