About the Role As a Cook, you are responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-presented meals for the clients in our treatment program. You will handle daily food preparation, meal set-up, service, and breakdown, prepare food so that proper portions are served without waste, and keep the kitchen, equipment, and food storage areas clean and orderly. Food safety is central to the job, and you will complete temperature and serving logs each shift and follow proper storage and handling practices in the freezers, reach-ins, and walk-in refrigerator. This is a hands-on role, and for many clients the meals you prepare are one of the most comforting parts of their day. You will plan, organize, and direct kitchen services under the direction of the Head Chef, work closely with the Head Chef and management, take inventory and place orders twice a week, and take ownership of the kitchen during your shift, including keeping it secured when you are not present. Key Responsibilities• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of basic food preparation and safety standards.• Maintain knowledge of all functions within the kitchen facility.• Assume responsibility for the proper food preparation, meal set-up and breakdown, meal service and overall cleanliness.• Provide well-managed and clean facilities and equipment.• Execute all tasks in a timely manner and prepare food in such a way that proper portions will be served while preventing waste from overcooking.• Take responsibility for the proper storage and care of foods in the freezers, reach-ins, and walk-in refrigerator, making certain that all areas are kept clean and orderly.• Plan, organize and direct kitchen services under the direction of the Head Chef.• Work closely with the Head Chef and management from all fields.• Maintain responsibility for the kitchen at all times.• Keep the kitchen door shut and locked when not present to prevent non-personnel from entering the kitchen.• Complete all temperature logs and food serving logs for the designated shift.• Take inventory and place orders twice a week through designated providers.• Always put safety first. Qualifications• High school diploma or GED.• Minimum of 2 years of prior kitchen experience; specific experience with serving large populations preferred.• Food Handlers Certification.• Ability to maintain open communication lines with facility staff, attending clinicians, physicians, patients and families.• Pass a pre-employment background check and drug screening.• Knowledge of the principles and practices of food preparation, meal service, cooking safety and sanitation.• Knowledge of Department of Health kitchen facility standards.
