Position Summary
Cook – Part‑time in the Dietary Department at Viva Senior Living. Reports to the Food Service Director. The role ensures all foods are prepared, served, and stored safely while meeting the dietary needs of residents in a caring and compassionate environment, in accordance with all regulatory and facility policies.
Responsibilities
- Ensure menu items are prepared and served in line with departmental policies and procedures.
- Maintain presentation standards for all menu items, satisfying taste, appearance, and dietary requirements set by the Dining Services Director.
- Prepare meals following nutritional programs and individual resident plans.
- Perform sanitary measures, including cleaning, sweeping, and proper food coverage and storage.
- Work efficiently and consistently, meeting meal preparation deadlines and correct daily quantities.
- Utilize kitchen equipment safely and keep equipment in good working condition.
- Monitor inventory, ordering and receiving supplies on time to sustain adequate inventory levels for current and anticipated volume.
- Serve food in appropriate portion sizes and temperatures.
- Report any infractions of food services department policies and procedures.
- Volunteer for open shifts and assist with training new employees when requested.
- Follow proper reporting procedures for accidents, work‑related injuries, or occupational exposures.
- Adhere to regulations related to blood‑borne pathogens, infection control, hazardous materials, and fire safety.
- Participate in life‑safety and emergency drills and assist with resident evacuation during emergencies.
- Maintain PHI confidentiality and report any breaches or abuse, neglect, misappropriation, or exploitation incidents.
- Report incidents of retaliation or discrimination to the Human Resources Director and Compliance Officer.
- Report any suspicion of a crime to law enforcement and the state agency.
- Arrive to scheduled shifts promptly and maintain a dependable attendance record.
- Perform any other related duties as required.
Requirements
Education and general qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
- Compassion, dignity, and respect toward residents, adhering to the Resident Bill of Rights.
Physical and health requirements
- Annual verification of a negative TB skin test.
- Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday and cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that ensure adequate functioning of these senses.
- Must meet the general health requirements set by facility policies, including a medical and physical examination.
- Must hold a Missouri Food Handler’s Card.
- Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and occasionally agitated residents.
- Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift at least 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet and carry such weight a distance of 50 feet.
- May be required to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
