Prepares and serves nutritious meals according to established menus and physician-ordered diets. Monitors food handling, preparation, meal service, and sanitation practices to ensure all health, safety, and environmental standards are met and maintained.
Prepare and serve meals according to physician-ordered diets and facility menus
Follow established menus and ensure proper substitutions are documented
Honor resident special requests within prescribed diet orders
Ensure all food is prepared and served safely and hygienically
Follow cleaning schedules as directed by the Food Service Manager
Properly label, date, and store all leftover food
Report menu changes, supply needs, or equipment issues
Report unsafe conditions or malfunctioning equipment immediately
Assist dietary aides and dishwashers as needed
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
Attend required in-service training sessions
Perform other duties as assigned
Must be of legal working age
High school diploma or GED required (experience may substitute)
Ability to read, understand, and follow recipes and diet orders
Strong communication skills in English
Ability to interact respectfully with residents, families, and staff
Knowledge of long-term care regulations preferred
Food Protection Manager certification required or willingness to obtain
Food handler certification required within 30 days of hire
At least 1 year of institutional cooking experience preferred
Must be willing to work overtime when needed
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs
Ability to carry up to 25 lbs
Ability to push or pull up to 50 lbs
Frequent standing, bending, and stooping
Ability to reach above shoulder level
Exposure to varying kitchen temperatures and conditions
Ability to handle physical and occasional high-stress situations
