Newfields a Place for Nature & The Arts in Indianapolis is seeking a Cook to join the Culinary Arts Department. The Cook works closely with the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef to ensure seasonal operations meet the team’s needs during each shift.
This hourly position offers hands-on learning from hospitality experts and opportunities to develop skills. The role requires weekend availability and an average of 37.5 hours per week, with emphasis on safety, quality, and guest satisfaction.

The Cook plays a very important role in the overall success of the Newfields Culinary Arts Department. This position works closely with the Executive Chef and Executive Sous Chef to ensure that seasonal operations needs of the team are met. The Cook makes sure that the needs of all seasonal projects for both the customer and employees are being met during each shift.
Examples of duties that will be expected of this position are: Relaying inventory counts and quality issues to the Chefs, proper food handling, making sure spaces are clean and secure when closing for the day, alerting management to staffing issues and becoming familiar with overall Newfields policies and procedures so that they can help lead the team in being compliant.
Position requires working an average of 37.5 hours per work week, and must have full weekend availability.
This position will allow for individuals to learn alongside experts in the hospitality field as well as be offered opportunities to learn and grow themselves.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to stand for 3-5 hours at a time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color, vision peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
