Job summary

Ridgeview Medical Center in Chaska, MN is seeking a hospital cook responsible for preparing and cooking large quantities of food for patients, staff and visitors, following menus and production sheets.

You will coordinate timing, maintain recipe standards, ensure safety and sanitation, and work with a team to deliver meals on schedule while providing friendly service.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • At least 1 year of institutional or hospital kitchen experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic culinary terms and food safety practices.
  • Ability to follow recipes, measure ingredients and maintain portion control.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Sanitation certification preferred or obtained within 1 year.

Job description

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for preparing and cooking large quantities of food for consumption by patients, employees and visitors.

Job Functions
  1. Prepares, seasons (appropriately), and cooks food for patients, staff, and visitors according to menu and production sheets.
  2. Coordinates timing of preparation in order to meet service schedules for patients and catering service.
  3. Adheres to standardization of recipes and portion control to prevent food waste and control cost.
  4. Practices and adheres to safety guidelines from the State Department of Health.
  5. Gives directions to personnel who assist in food preparation.
  6. Communicates with the other cooks and chef manager regarding menu information and monitors food availability for patients and cafeteria guests.
  7. Assists in the assembly of patient trays on tray line.
  8. Assists with washing pots and pans.
  9. Provides professional and courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education/Work Experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1-year food service experience pertaining to institutional, casual, or fine dining cooking, operation of kitchen equipment, food handling, and sanitation
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Basic food and culinary terms, cooking methods pertaining to food preparation
  • Ability to meet and maintain the necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
  • Ability to complete basic mathematical problems
  • Knowledge of modified diet food preparation
  • Knife skills and small tool handling
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
License/Certifications
  • Sanitation Certification within one year of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Culinary degree
  • Previous hospital food service experience
  • Serv/Safe certified in food safety handling and preparation
