Job summary

Serenity Knolls in Forest Knolls, CA, is seeking a Cook to join our culinary team in a 42-bed residential setting. The role supports a detox-capable unit with mid-day coverage and a Monday–Sunday shift rotation. Experience in institutional food service and ServSafe certification are preferred.

You will prepare meals, supervise kitchen staff, manage inventories, and collaborate with leadership to maintain nutritious, balanced menus and compliance with guidelines.

Qualifications

• Experience cooking for large groups in institutional settings.
• Able to work in a team and adapt to schedule.
• Two or more years’ experience in food service for institutions (school, hospital, cafeteria).
• ServSafe or similar food safety certification is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cook and prepare food according to approved menus.
• Direct activities of workers who assist in preparing and serving meals.
• Clean and inspect equipment, kitchen appliances and work areas to ensure cleanliness and functional operation.
• Take inventory of supplies and equipment.
• Work with Food Service leadership or Dietitian to ensure varied, balanced menus.
• Coordinate food production, cleaning, maintenance, and inventory control.
• Ensure compliance with policies, quality standards, cost parameters, and regulatory requirements.

Overview

Serenity Knolls, a premier residential treatment center in beautiful Forest Knolls, is seeking a Cook to join our culinary team. We're loocated in the San Geronimo Valley just 10 minutes West of Fairfax. Serenity Knolls is a 42 bed co-ed facility serving ages 18 and up. Included in the 42 bed capacity are 6 beds available for detox. Serenity Knolls is a 12 step based, social model residential treatment center. The Knolls uniquely combines the traditional social model of care with contemporary cognitive behavioral, psychodynamic and evidence based practice.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience cooking for large groups
• Dependable, team-oriented, and flexible
• Willing to work 3 weekdays and 1 weekend day coverage per week.
• Shift availability either Wed-Sat or Thurs-Sun, mid day coverage needed.

Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Additional education or training in the culinary field preferred.
• Two or more years’ experience in food service role in preparing food for institutions, such as school, hospital or cafeteria preferred.

LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:

• ServSafe Certification or similar food safety certification, where required by the state, facility.
