Job summary

Community Solutions in Bloomfield, CT, is seeking a full-time Cook for its central kitchen. Cooks prepare food for lunch and dinner, set aside breakfast items and snacks, and complete meal clean-ups to maintain a hygienic kitchen environment.

The central kitchen serves CSI programs statewide, with a starting wage of $20.25/hour and a schedule of Sun/Mon/Fri/Sat 9:00am-5:00pm and Thu 6:00am-2:00pm. Benefits are included, such as vacation, sick time, and health plans.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, or GED.
  • One year cooking experience, or food service certification.

Responsibilities

  • In accordance with established menu cycles, prepare and serve food.
  • Work in collaboration and partnership with program staff.
  • Order/shop and restock supplies as needed, staying within the established budget.
  • Maintain kitchen cleanliness and orderliness at all times.
  • Ensure that all foods are safely stored.
  • Supervise youth assisting in meal preparation, when appropriate.
  • Maintain personal cleanliness at all times, including clean hands and fingernails, a clean apron and garments, and appropriate use of hairnets or hats. Plastic gloves should be used as required.
  • Clean and sanitize workspace before and following all food-related activities.
  • Communicate to the Program Director or designee, any relevant information pertaining to food services issues, including any deviations from the approved menu or from established procedures or policy.
  • Ensure compliance with all city, state and federal health codes.
  • Maintain knowledge of regulations related to food received from the Food Bank or other sources whose use is restricted, and ensure compliance with these regulations.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of and abide by CSI’s programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

The Central Kitchen prepares and distributes meals to our programs around the state.

Position Overview

Cooks prepare food for lunch and dinner meals, as well as setting aside food for breakfast and evening snacks. In addition, a Cook will complete meal clean-ups and maintain a hygienic kitchen environment.

Starting Wage:

$20.25/hour

Schedule:

Sunday/Monday/Friday/Saturday 9:00am-5:00pm and Thursday 6:00am to 2:00pm

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, or GED.
  • One year cooking experience, or food service certification.

  • Two (2) weeks vacation accrued within the first year, bumped to three (3) weeks accrual after 1 year of service.
