Job summary

Markel is seeking a Chief Operations Officer for the Wholesale & Specialty Insurance Division in the US to drive operational excellence, technology enablement, and broker service. The role focuses on improving underwriting productivity, implementing AI-enabled processes, and delivering targeted growth and efficiency outcomes across the US W&S business.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in insurance operations, with a focus on wholesale and specialty.
• Demonstrated AI fluency and the ability to identify high-value use cases, govern risk, and scale AI-enabled workflows.
• Ability to lead senior leadership teams from across the organization and drive large-scale change.
• Strong understanding of underwriting processes and IT systems.

Responsibilities

• Own the W&S operating model across regions, underwriting support, service, and workflow.
• Set the vision for the future W&S operating model with AI-enabled end-state and path to achieve it.
• Lead transformation initiatives that improve speed, quality, and expense ratio.
• Drive alignment across underwriting, claims, Ops, IT, HR, and finance.
• Mentor and develop operational and technology leaders.
