Job summary

Denver Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau is seeking a Convention Sales Manager to promote Denver as a premier destination for meetings and conventions. The role will focus on obtaining orders or contracts from corporate clients who utilize the convention center and nearby hotels, working within the assigned territory.

The position requires a Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of sales experience, with a preference for hotel and hospitality industry background.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Hospitality, Marketing, Communications, or related field is required.
  • Minimum four (4) years of sales experience with a proven track record of accomplishment.
  • Hotel, tourism and/or hospitality industry experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Promote Denver as a premier destination for meetings and conventions and obtain orders or contracts.
  • Generate and distribute leads within assigned territory for hotels in Metro Denver.
  • Convert leads to booked business through follow‑up via trade shows, FAM, and sales trips.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with convention center representatives, partners, and hotels.
  • Prepare and distribute contracts, quotes and reports within deadlines.
  • Administer and maintain department databases and project plans.

Job Title:Convention Sales Manager

Job Summary

The Convention Sales Manager’s primary responsibility is to promote Denver as a premier destination for meetings and conventions and obtain orders or contracts from corporate businesses that primarily use the convention center and/or multiple hotels. The Convention Sales Manager will conduct business both in and away from the office within their assigned region.

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • While this position does not have any direct staff supervisory responsibilities, it will share the use of a Convention Sales Coordinator.
  • This position will be expected to communicate and oversee relevant work activities of the assigned Convention Sales Coordinator.
Duties/Responsibilities
  • Support Visit Denver's vision, mission, and values by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence and competence, collaboration, innovation, respect, personalization, commitment to community, accountability, and ownership.
  • Support Visit Denver's efforts related to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  • Implement and manage sales initiatives within assigned territory; communicate with clients proactively to build and maintain relationships; manage and arrange client site tours as required.
  • Generate and distribute leads within assigned territory for hotels in Metro Denver and when possible, for resort members.
  • Convert leads to booked business through follow‑up via trade shows, FAM, sales trips, and other designated methods.
  • Establish and maintain solid working relationships with convention center representatives, partners, hotel representatives and Visit Denver team members.
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of convention centers, city hotels, attractions, airlines, climate, recreation, etc.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and practices; maintain awareness of competing cities.
  • Prepare and distribute various weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual internal and external contracts, quotes and reports within established deadlines.
  • Administer and maintain department related databases, project plans and spreadsheets to track information and handle projects.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • The territory as outlined above as well as the peak night parameters are both subject to change based on the discretion of the Vice President, Sales & Services.

  • Ability to travel locally and domestically.
Education and Experience
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Sales, Hospitality, Marketing, Communications, and/or a relevant field of study is required.
  • Minimum four (4) years of sales experience with a proven track record of accomplishment required.
  • Hotel, tourism and/or hospitality industry experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position, such as sitting or standing, for an extended period.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and reach.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds on an occasional basis.
