Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking an entry-level Facilities Associate in Newport, NC. You will greet residents, guide disposal areas, and help maintain a clean, safe outdoor facility while supporting waste collection operations.

You will assist with equipment use, coordinate with drivers, and ensure compliance with safety rules during daily shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with the public and team members.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, safety procedures, and posted guidelines.
• Basic math skills for general site reporting/tracking, if required.
• Ability to work required shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Responsibilities

• Customer Service: Greet residents and provide guidance on where to dispose of household waste, bulk items, and recyclables.
• Site Maintenance: Keep the facility clean, organized, and safe by sweeping, debris removal, and picking up litter or spills.
• Equipment & Container Operations: Safely operate and monitor equipment (e.g., trash compactors) per safety procedures; monitor fill levels.
• Driver Coordination: Assist collection drivers with positioning, securing, or clearing areas around waste containers during pickups.
• Facility Operations: Open and close the facility punctually according to the schedule.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Work Environment: Performs duties outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) approximately 90% of the time. Exposure to typical waste facility sounds and outdoor elements.
• Physical Demands: Position involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and routine handling of materials. Ability to regularly lift or move items up to 10 lbs, and occasionally up to 35 lbs.
