Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. in Garner, NC is hiring for a hands-on, outdoor role at our waste facility. You will greet residents, guide them on proper disposal, assist with site operations, and support drivers during pickups.

This is a full-time position requiring reliability and strong customer service. The role involves working outdoors in varying weather, following safety procedures, and maintaining a clean, safe site.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills to interact effectively with the public and team members.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, safety procedures, and posted guidelines.
• Basic math skills for general site reporting/tracking, if required.
• Ability to work required shifts, including weekends and holidays as scheduled.

• Customer Service: Warmly greet residents and provide clear, polite guidance on where to dispose of household waste, bulk items, and recyclable materials.
• Site Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe facility by sweeping, clearing debris, and picking up litter or spillage as needed.
• Equipment & Container Operations: Safely operate and monitor facility equipment (such as trash compactors) according to company safety procedures. Monitor container fill levels throughout the day.
• Driver Coordination: Assist collection drivers with positioning, securing, or clearing area around waste containers during pickups.
• Facility Operations: Open and close the facility punctually according to the scheduled operating hours.
• Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local safety standards, regulations, and company guidelines.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

• Work Environment: Performs duties outdoors in various weather conditions (heat, cold, rain) approximately 90% of the time. Exposure to typical waste facility sounds and outdoor elements.
• Physical Demands: Position involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, and routine handling of materials. Ability to regularly lift or move items up to 10 lbs, and occasionally up to 20 lbs.
