Job summary

Johnson Controls is seeking an HVAC DDC Controls Technician to join our federal team at the Pentagon in Arlington, VA. The role focuses on installation, start-up, commissioning and troubleshooting of direct digital controls using Metasys and Distech building automation systems.

You will train customers, read blueprints and diagrams, and ensure safety standards are followed on Johnson Controls sites. A security clearance may be required in this federal position.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience installing, troubleshooting, commissioning DDC systems.
• Experience with HVAC controls and facilities management systems.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances.

We are seeking an HVAC DDC Controls Technician to join our federal team supporting one of the most iconic buildings in the world – the Pentagon (military experience is not required) in Arlington, VA.

Location: Pentagon; all work is based at this location

Pay Range: $40.00 - $58.00 per hour. Negotiable based on experience.

Company vehicle/Vehicle allowance: Yes

Paid Time Off: 3 weeks of paid vacation, 5 sick days, 10 standard holidays, and 3 floating holidays (6.5 weeks in total!)

As Controls Technician, You Will

• Perform install, start-up, commissioning, point-to-point checkouts, troubleshooting and/or replacement of HVAC controls systems & equipment, building control systems; most work will involve Johnson Controls Metasys and Distech building automation system and controls
• Assist with field changes and discrepancies for engineering corrections and drawings
• Provide training and associated manuals and documentation to customers on electronic control systems operations
• Conduct self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency in company's product lines; completes certifications as required
• Use electronic test equipment to troubleshoot problems during installation
• Read and properly interpret blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, software/systems programs, schematics and operational product manuals
• Adhere to Johnson Controls and customer safety standards, provide safety awareness leadership and instruction to technicians and subcontractors on Johnson Controls work sites

Required Qualifications

• Experience installing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and/or doing point-to-point checks with Direct Digital Control (DDC) systems. 5+ years preferred
• Knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems, HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques
• Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances (background/character, criminal history, employment, and credit checks)

Preferred Experience

• Programming and/or troubleshooting various brands of HVAC controls products (Johnson Controls Metasys, Honeywell, Siemens, Delta, Distech, Carrier, ALC, Andover)
• Experience with BAS communication protocols including at least one of the following: BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, N2, P1, Modbus, and/or LON
• Experience working with Johnson Controls Metasys or Tridium® Niagara Direct Digital Control (DDC) system
• Experience using SMP, SCT, and/or CCT

Preferred Education

• Bachelor's Degree, Associates Degree, or Technical School (or equivalent experience) in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, engineering, HVAC, or a related field
