Job summary

CraftMark Bakery, LLC is seeking a skilled Controls Technician to maintain and troubleshoot its highly automated production systems in a state-of-the-art bakery facility. The role focuses on electrical, automation, and control systems to keep production running safely and efficiently.

Ideal candidates will have strong PLC/HMI programming experience (Allen-Bradley), SCADA familiarity, and a background in motion control and instrumentation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent technical training and experience.
  • 1+ year of related industrial controls or maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of processing, packaging, and related production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of electronic circuits, electrical systems, pneumatics, and schematics.

CraftMark Bakery is hiring a Controls Technician to support its highly automated, state-of-the-art commercial bakery. The position focuses on maintaining and troubleshooting the electrical and automation systems that keep production running safely and efficiently.

Primary Responsibilities

This role is focused on maintaining and improving the bakery's automated production systems while ensuring safe, reliable operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work safely and follow all safety, GMP, and 5S requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and repair production and packaging equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and coordinate equipment repairs.
  • Support production by minimizing downtime and improving system performance.
  • Assist with machine scheduling for repairs and rebuilds.
  • Participate in automation and process improvement projects.
  • Collaborate with maintenance and production teams.
  • Participate in safety, GMP, and other facility audits.
Technical Requirements
  • PLCs: Extensive programming and troubleshooting experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs, especially Logix 500 and Logix 5000. Must understand PLC hardware, software, and communications. Mitsubishi and/or Beckhoff PLC/HMI experience is a plus.
  • HMI/SCADA: Experience uploading, modifying, and downloading Allen-Bradley HMI programs. Ignition SCADA experience is a plus.
  • Motion Control: Troubleshoot and configure servo systems, motion controllers, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and feedback devices. Experience with Allen-Bradley motion platforms is preferred.
  • Industrial Networks: Troubleshoot Ethernet and other industrial communication networks.
  • Instrumentation: Configure, calibrate, and troubleshoot flow, temperature, and pressure instruments.
  • Electrical: Strong knowledge of electrical theory, relay logic, wiring, electrical drawings, and troubleshooting both hardware and software issues.
  • Documentation: Read electrical schematics, understand electrical codes, and locate manufacturer technical documentation.
  • Computer Skills: Proficient with Microsoft Office and CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) software.
Ideal Candidate

This position is best suited for an experienced industrial controls technician or automation technician with strong expertise in:

  • Allen-Bradley PLC and HMI programming and troubleshooting
  • SCADA systems
  • Motion control and VFDs
  • Instrumentation and electrical systems
  • Food manufacturing or other highly automated industrial environments
  • Able to install electrical systems (conduit, run wire, and mount devices

Compared with a standard maintenance technician role, this is a more advanced controls and automation position with a strong emphasis on PLC programming, industrial automation, and electrical diagnostics.

Required Education & Experience

Candidates for the Skilled Controls Technician position should have:

  • A Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent technical training and relevant work experience.
  • At least 1 year of related industrial controls or maintenance experience.
  • Strong knowledge of the operation and maintenance of processing, packaging, and related production equipment.
  • Working knowledge of:
    • Electronic circuits
    • Electrical systems
    • Pneumatic systems
    • Equipment schematics and prints

Overall, the role is designed for someone with a solid foundation in industrial automation, electrical troubleshooting, and production equipment maintenance, with a strong emphasis on PLCs, controls, and automated manufacturing systems.
