Job summary
GALLO is seeking an Instrumentation & Controls Technician to keep our winery operations safe, reliable, and efficient. In this hands-on role, you will maintain, install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems supporting production, working with electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, and digital instruments, PLCs, HMIs, and industrial networks.

Join GALLO as an Instrumentation & Controls Technician and help keep our winery operations running safely, reliably, and efficiently. In this hands-on role, you will maintain, install, calibrate, and troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems that support production. You will work with electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, and digital instruments while applying your knowledge of winery processes, PLCs, HMIs, electrical systems, and industrial networks.
Working with minimal supervision and in partnership with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and other teams, you will diagnose process upsets, trace control-loop malfunctions, and support repairs using PLCs and electrical test equipment such as ammeters, meggers, and multimeters. You will create and update basic PLC and HMI logic, troubleshoot standalone and networked HMIs, replace electrical components and VFD parameters, and support MES, Historian tags, Kepware, and communication networks including DeviceNet, Data Highway, and CAN I/O.
You will investigate equipment-performance opportunities, recommend practical technology or component improvements, and help execute projects that improve process measurement, control, safety, quality, and uptime. You will also contribute to capital projects and new-product commercialization by gathering and analyzing technical and cost data, documenting findings, tracking project milestones, and clearly communicating progress and roadblocks.

- Bachelor of Science Degree plus 1 year of working with PLC controls, logic circuits, pneumatic and electrical equipment experience; OR 2 years technical degree in electrical technology plus 3 years of experience working with PLC controls, logic circuits, pneumatic and electrical equipment; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 5 years of experience working with PLC controls, logic circuits, pneumatic and electrical equipment.
- Required to climb stairs and ladders; required to conduct work at heights.
- Required to lift and carry tools and equipment that weighs up-to 50 pounds.
- Knowledgeable of Electrical Safety procedures.
- May be required to work a rotating shift/schedule (e.g., day, swing, graveyard, 5x8, 4x10) as well as weekends and overtime.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting Allen-Bradley electrical systems and control components as well as systems and components from other manufacturers.
- Skilled in reading, comprehending, interpreting and executing simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
- Skilled in writing simple correspondence.
- Skilled in adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing using whole numbers.
- Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint at a basic level.
- Required to travel to company offices, sites, and/or meeting locations for onboarding, training, meetings, and events for development, department needs, and business delivery up to 5% of the time, with or without reasonable accommodation. - Bachelor of Science Degree plus 3 years of working with PLC controls, logic circuits, pneumatic and electrical equipment experience; OR 2 years technical degree in electrical technology plus 5 years of experience working with PLC controls, logic circuits, pneumatic and electrical equipment; OR High school diploma or State-issued equivalency certificate plus 7 years of experience working with PLC controls, logic circuits, pneumatic and electrical equipment.
- Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
- Knowledge of motion control and servo drive technology (software and hardware).
- Understanding of the basic principles of EtherNet networks and addressing.
- Knowledge of programmable logic controllers.
- Experience with the Rockwell Automation suite of software.
- Experience configuring, maintaining, troubleshooting FactoryTalkDirectory (local) and RSLinx Professional.
- Proficient in the maintenance and troubleshooting of Allen-Bradley HMI hardware and software, PanelView, PanelView+,FactoryTalk Studio ME,PanelBuilder 32.
- Proficient in the maintenance and troubleshooting of HMI terminals.
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of process control architecture
- Knowledge of motor control and automated control circuits.
- Knowledge of variable frequency drives in standalone and networked configurations.
- Skilled in MS Excel, MS Word and MS PowerPoint at a basic level.
- Experience working in a team environment.
- Experience completing the required paperwork associated with instrumentation duties.

- We offer a broad salary range to allow for long-term growth. Actual compensation paid within the range will be determined by multiple factors, including, but not limited to, education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, internal equity, and alignment with market data. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed between the entry point and middle of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors. In addition to the salary, this position may be eligible for bonuses, incentive plans, or participate in tasting room tip pools, as applicable.
