Job summary

Bahnson Mechanical Systems is seeking a controls technician to design, install, commission, and service automated control systems for industrial facilities. You will work with owners, managers, and operators to deliver energy savings, reliability, and data-driven insights across diverse environments.

Candidates should have 2–4 years of field experience, electrical/manufacturing background, and familiarity with HVAC concepts.

Qualifications

Based in the southeast, we are a premiere design-build mechanical contractor that serves the industrial, life sciences, advanced manufacturing, and mission critical markets.

Summary

Controls Technicians for Bahnson Mechanical Systems (BMS) perform a wide variety of work in both office and field settings. Controls Technicians must work with building owners, managers, and production facility operators to offer solutions, energy savings, productivity, and data tracking for their spaces. Controls Technicians will work with in-house Bahnson salespeople, design engineers, and project managers to deliver controls solutions to customers in a variety of industries. These industries range from textile mills to high-tech clean rooms and laboratories.

The range of controls solutions provided by a Bahnson Controls Technician can vary from running a single machine in a commercial space, to linking multiple manufacturing facilities into a campus-like network of data for control and monitoring. Controls Technicians must be able to adapt to fast-paced work settings and keep projects within budget and delivered on time. Communication skills are critical to staying connected with multiple trades, general contractors, and project managers to ensure proper coordination of job installations. Creativity in problem-solving is a must, and engineers must be self-motivated and capable of working alone or as part of a team.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • For New Control Systems, Controls Technicians will contribute to:
  • Job estimation
  • System design
  • Parts and product procurement
  • Control panel construction and wiring
  • Installation and commissioning of complete control systems
  • Customer training
  • Troubleshooting existing systems to perform repairs or suggest new solutions
  • Retrofitting of existing systems, which involves removal of older systems and installation of cutting edge hardware and software
  • Field installation of control panels, wiring, and pneumatic tubing.
  • Managing subcontractors and working with other trades to ensure a coordinated, quality and timely system installation
  • Some jobs will be located in neighboring states or far enough away that they will require overnight stays during the week while performing field work. Travel and out of town stays may be required.

PREFERRED BACKGROUND And/or EXPERIENCE
  • Electrical or Manufacturing preferred
  • 2-4 years of related field experience
  • Basic understanding of HVAC processes
  • Technical aptitude in mechanical and electromechanical fields
  • Experience in calibrating, troubleshooting, and replacing control systems
Computer Skills
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications (i.e., Outlook, Word, Teams, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Technical proficiency in some software applications (2D AutoCAD)
  • Previous experience with Blue Beam is a plus
  • Tridium/Niagara or Allen Bradley experience is a plus
