Job summary

Redwood seeks a skilled Controls Technician to implement and maintain controls hardware across production and facility systems. You will troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and sensors, support commissioning and upgrades, and collaborate with engineering and operations to improve process performance.

You will fabricate and upgrade control panels, interpret wiring diagrams, and document calibration data while adhering to safety and compliance standards in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in industrial automation, controls or instrumentation within a manufacturing or process environment.
  • Proficient troubleshooting of PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial sensors.
  • Strong ability to read electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on fabrication and wiring of control panels to meet design and safety standards.
  • Solid understanding of motor controls, instrumentation wiring, calibration, and pneumatic/mechanical integration.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain controls hardware, instrumentation, and electrical equipment across production and facility systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair overloads to minimize downtime and maximize efficiency.
  • Fabricate and upgrade electrical control panels per engineering specs.
  • Perform field wiring of instrumentation and motor controls for proper installation.
  • Conduct calibrations, fault diagnosis, and repairs on electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Interpret P&IDs and schematics to perform advanced troubleshooting and analysis.
  • Support equipment commissioning and system upgrades with cross-functional teams.
  • Maintain records of work including changes to wiring diagrams and calibration data.

Key Responsibilities
  • The Controls Technician plays a key role in implementing and maintaining controls hardware, instrumentation, and electrical equipment across production and facility systems. In this position, you will troubleshoot and repair PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, sensors, and automation components to ensure reliable and efficient plant operations. You will support equipment commissioning, execute system upgrades, and collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to drive continuous improvements in process performance.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, and automated manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and maximize production efficiency.
  • Fabricate, modify, and upgrade electrical control panels in accordance with engineering specifications and safety standards.
  • Perform field wiring of instrumentation and motor controls to ensure proper installation and optimal system functionality.
  • Conduct and document maintenance calibrations, installations, fault diagnosis, and repairs on electronic, electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic systems.
  • Interpret P&IDs, electrical schematics, and technical documentation to perform advanced troubleshooting and system analysis.
  • Support equipment commissioning, process improvements, and system upgrades alongside cross-functional engineering and operations teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including updates to control logic, wiring diagrams, and calibration data while adhering to safety and compliance protocols.
Requirements
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience in industrial automation, controls, or instrumentation within a manufacturing or process environment.
  • Proven proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, and industrial sensors.
  • Strong skills in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, P&IDs, and technical documentation.
  • Hands-on experience fabricating and wiring control panels to meet design, quality, and safety standards.
  • Solid understanding of motor controls, instrumentation wiring, calibration procedures, and pneumatic/mechanical system integration.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent, safely, and successfully with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards .
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards .
