Job summary

Magna Mirrors Holland is seeking a hands-on controls engineer to provide technical support to setup personnel, manufacturing and engineering across all phases of production. You will troubleshoot and maintain PLC, vision, robotics, and servo systems while driving improvements to OEE and process efficiency.

You will document work standards, mentor staff, lead root-cause analyses, implement corrective actions for out-of-tolerance variance, and collaborate with process engineering to ensure robust

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in manufacturing/electrical engineering technology or 3+ years troubleshooting PLCs, vision systems, robotics, and servo systems.
  • Experience with the listed controls vendors for troubleshooting and programming purposes.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to lead, train, and support other staff in a team environment.
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills to work on projects independently under minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support to set-up personnel, manufacturing, and engineering in all phases of manufacturing.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to improve OEE by reducing downtime, cycle time, and scrap while boosting efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot, identify, implement, and maintain controls systems including PLC, Vision, Robotics, and Servo.
  • Conduct manufacturing process verification via manual records or automated controls.
  • Develop work standards for tools, machines, and equipment and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide training and work direction to other staff.
  • Investigate root causes and implement corrective actions for out-of-tolerance variance and downtime.
  • Communicate with process engineering to ensure robust processes and solutions.
  • Assist in development and implementation of quality procedures and ensure ISO/IATF compliance.

Job description

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides technical support to set‑up personnel, manufacturing, and engineering in all phases of manufacturing.
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities to improve OEE (overall equipment effectiveness) metrics through downtime reduction, cycle time reduction, scrap reduction, and improved efficiency.
  • Troubleshoots, identifies, implements, and maintains controls systems, including PLC, Vision, Robotics, and Servo.
  • Conducts manufacturing process verification via manual records or through implementation of automated controls.
  • Develops work standards for current tools, machines, and equipment in designated area and maintains accurate records.
  • Provides training and work direction to other staff. Performs other duties as necessary.
  • Acts as a first‑line responder to independently investigate, find root cause and implement immediate and long‑term corrective action for out‑of‑tolerance process variance and equipment downtime.
  • Communicates with process engineering and support personnel to ensure robust process and solutions.
  • Assists in development and implementation of quality procedures, work instructions and standards. Understands Magna Mirrors Holland’s quality policy and assures compliance with ISO/IATF systems.
Requirements
  • B.S. Degree in Manufacturing/Electrical Engineering Technology or a minimum of 3 years’ experience troubleshooting PLCs, Vision Systems, Robotics, and/or Servo Systems. Experience with Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc, Denso, Cognex, Keyence, GVI, Yaskawa, Bekhoff, and Wago is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish communication with all controls systems in area of responsibility for troubleshooting and programming purposes.
  • Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills to work with internal and external contacts and to lead, train, and support other staff in a team environment.
  • Strong project management and problem‑solving skills to work on projects independently under minimal work direction.
