Responsible for executing routine and complex maintenance, troubleshooting, and program modifications for automated manufacturing and facility systems. This hands-on role involves maintaining drives, PLCs, robotics, and electrical components with minimal supervision while driving safety, compliance, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
- Respond to unplanned downtime or machine breakdowns on manufacturing and facility equipment.
- Execute maintenance activities for non-routine or complex system issues, applying systematic root-cause troubleshooting methods.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair AC drive systems, electric motors, and PLCs.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance, including lubrication, adjustments, repairs, and cleaning.
- Systems & Equipment Programming:
- Access and interpret PLC logic via laptop computer or relevant communication interfaces.
- Design, fabricate, and install mechanical and electronic equipment, making necessary program adjustments.
- Wire and repair electric motors and handle basic electrical wiring in compliance with NEC standards.
- Operations & Safety Leadership:
- Advise operators and team members on safe operating procedures for electrical, electronic, and mechanical systems.
- Enforce safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, during equipment installation, start-up, and shutdown.
- Lead and assist in planning, coordinating, and executing major plant shutdowns and maintenance events.
- Complete required safety and technical training and deliver on-the-job training (OJT) to team members.
- Maintain clean, organized work areas and shop spaces following maintenance tasks.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
- Education:
- Associate Degree in an industrial maintenance-related field preferred (or 2 years of post-secondary technical schooling).
- Experience:
- 3+ years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment, OR 5-7 years in industrial maintenance as a Controls Technician (electronics programming & installation).
- Technical Skills:
- Proven experience troubleshooting motors, drives, electrical circuits, hydraulic systems, power transmission, and robotics.
- Expertise with Allen-Bradley software platforms (Slice to RSLogix / Studio 5000) and Siemens software (Block logic).
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Experience utilizing CAD software for design.
