Job summary

Green Bay Packaging Inc., Fremont Division, is seeking a Senior-Level Controls Technician responsible for installing, programming, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing PLC systems and industrial automation equipment to keep manufacturing running safely and efficiently.

Job description

Position Overview:

Green Bay Packaging Inc., Fremont Division is currently seeking a Senior-Level Controls Technician that is responsible for the installation, programming, troubleshooting, maintenance, and optimization of programmable logic controller (PLC) systems and industrial automation equipment. This role supports manufacturing operations by ensuring automated equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.


Responsibilities:


  • Troubleshoot and repair PLC-controlled machinery and automated equipment.

  • Program, modify, and maintain PLC and HMI software.

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical and control systems.

  • Diagnose electrical, instrumentation, and communication network issues.



  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, ladder logic diagrams, and technical manuals.

  • Install and commission new automation equipment and upgrades.

  • Support production teams by minimizing downtime and improving equipment reliability.

  • Conduct safety inspections and ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.

  • Maintain documentation including control drawings, maintenance records, and operating procedures.

  • Work with engineers, maintenance personnel, and operators on continuous improvement projects.

  • Perform all essential job functions and other related duties as assigned by the company. Responsibilities may be updated based on business needs, operational requirements, and management direction.


Qualifications:


  • High school or technical diploma or equivalent practical experience plus 7-10 years or more years of related experience.



  • Experience troubleshooting industrial electrical and control systems.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively deliver and reinforce consistent messages at all levels.

  • Strong team player who can effectively work with others to meet objectives and timelines.

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including periods of time in noisy, dusty, hot or cold environments

  • Ability to work with plant personnel, engineering groups, and outside contractors to ensure the proper execution of work

  • Use of self-initiative and independence to complete tasks with urgency and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills.

  • Thorough knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electro-mechanical and other automation devices required.

  • Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and ladder logic.

  • Ability to read plans, prints, sketches and use those to direct fabrication or repair.

  • Ability to lead others by communicating effectively with team members.

  • Strong analytical and technical skills.

  • Flexible schedule required. Candidate should be able to work overtime, odd and unscheduled hours as required and share on-call duties.

  • Physical aspects of job include standing, bending, squatting, leaning, kneeling, and sitting.

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, unassisted.

  • An assessment test will be administered.


Preferred Skills:


  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation, Mechatronics, Electronics, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

  • Corrugator or other industrial manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, or Mitsubishi.

  • Familiarity with VFDs, motor controls, sensors, instrumentation, and industrial networks.

  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, robotics, and automated production equipment.

  • OSHA, ISA, or related industrial certifications.
