Job summary

Socket.dev in Bowling Green, OH seeks a Controls Technician to support operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of plant electrical and automated control systems.

You will assist with PLC/HMI programming, instrumentation, electrical equipment, and technical documentation under guidance. In this role you will draft schematics, perform equipment modifications, and collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams.

Qualifications

  • Basic knowledge of industrial electrical systems, controls, and documentation.
  • Prior hands-on experience with electrical maintenance, automation, or industrial controls preferred.
  • Working knowledge of PLC and HMI systems, including basic troubleshooting and programming concepts.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment documentation.
  • Familiarity with industrial instrumentation, sensors, motors, drives, and control devices.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
  • Understanding of safe electrical work practices and safety procedures.
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement and lean manufacturing concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with electrical panel layouts, wiring changes, and equipment modifications for plant projects and maintenance needs.
  • Assist with the selection, installation, and replacement of electrical, PLC, HMI, and instrumentation components.
  • Create, update, and maintain electrical schematics, panel drawings, and related technical documentation.
  • Participate in engineering, maintenance, and cross-functional plant meetings involving electrical hardware, controls, or programming.
  • Make routine PLC and HMI programming additions or changes with appropriate review and guidance.
  • Work with plant operators and supervisors to identify controls-related issues and opportunities to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
  • Follow electrical safety requirements and promptly identify and communicate potential electrical safety concerns.
  • Assist with maintaining records of electrical system changes that may affect Arc Flash Hazard Analysis documentation.
  • Support maintenance projects and tasks involving instrumentation, electrical equipment, PLCs, HMIs, and related controls systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical equipment, instrumentation, controls hardware, and PLC/HMI program issues.
  • Maintain organized drawings, program files, equipment documentation, and backups of critical controls files.
  • Assist with basic PLC-to-database or system interface troubleshooting and modifications as assigned.
  • Monitor PLC/HMI/MES network and hardware health, identify issues, and assist with component updates or replacements as needed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in Electrical Technology, Electronics, Automation, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field preferred; equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
