Job summary

Johnson Controls seeks an HVAC commissioning technician to install and optimize building systems. You will load controller software, perform basic commissioning, and troubleshoot HVAC controls on-site to improve energy efficiency and reliability.

You will document changes, maintain records, and communicate with customers and contractors while following strict safety standards. A 2-year degree or equivalent experience is preferred, with strong PC and software skills to support HVAC technologies.

Qualifications

  • 2-year degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field, or 2+ years of related experience.
  • Knowledge of HVAC controls systems, facilities management, site prep and installation/servicing techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to represent Johnson Controls professionally.
  • Ability to explain technical information to diverse audiences and supervise non-complex equipment on site.
  • PC experience and ability to program HVAC-related software.

Responsibilities

  • Load system-level controller software and perform basic commissioning.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot HVAC systems and controls on-site.
  • Provide highest level of service to resolve building inefficiencies.
  • Document changes and maintain commissioning records and as-built docs.
  • Communicate progress and issues to customers and contractors on-site.

  • Recommend solutions to improve facility efficiency and upsell where appropriate.

What you will do

Performs assigned system commissioning using Johnson Controls configuration and commissioning tools. Troubleshoots and resolves basic HVAC mechanical, electrical, and controls problems. Responds to basic warranty calls. Provide our customers with the highest level of service to solve building inefficiencies and resolve service-related items. As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of service.

How you will do it
  • Loads system-level controller software.
  • Performs basic commissioning and system diagnostics from system-level controllers to end devices (i.e. sensors, actuators, etc.) and completes all required commissioning documentation.
  • Keeps management and JCI contractor or customer informed of job progress and issues.
  • Calibrates systems requiring basic electronic test equipment.
  • Completes administrative tasks including but not limited to time sheets, expense reports, and on-site documentation.
  • Documents changes and provides information for as-built documentation.
  • Communicates with the JCI contractor or customer upon arrival and before leaving the work site.
  • Follows all safety standards and attends required safety training. High degree of regard to employee and subcontractor safety.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facility is running efficiently to include upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
What we look for
Required
  • 2-year degree in electronics, mechanical systems, computer technology, air conditioning or similar field or at least 2 years of industry experience or experience in servicing electronic and/or mechanical systems in the HVAC industry.
  • Generally required knowledge includes HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to properly represent Johnson Controls to customers and other outside contacts in an ethical and professional manner.
  • Ability to explain technical information to technical and non-technical people. Leadership skills to support the activities of Mechanics working on non-complex, non-critical Building Automation equipment on a job site.
  • PC experience required and the ability to program HVAC related software.

HIRING HOURLY RANGE: $24.32 - 33.41 Hourly rate to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
