As a Control Systems Engineer supporting our manufacturing site, you will be trusted with providing engineering skills and support to help develop software and hardware control solutions and for the design, programming, installation, modification, troubleshooting, and improvement of major systems at Houston, TX.

In this role, a typical day will include:

  • Crafting, programming, installing and modification of automation systems for campus-wide (every building including remote warehouse(s)) control systems including air conditioning control, environmental monitoring (temperature, humidity, pressure, particulate count) and central energy plant chilled water and steam distribution systems.
  • Ensuring data backup and system integrity/uptime for validated and business database systems.
  • Formulating, submitting for approval, conducting, and evaluating validation protocols (IQ and OQ) for various automation systems within manufacturing and research environments.
  • Providing support for systems and network administration for multiple separate Windows and Linux networks, ensuring workstations, servers, and networking infrastructure functions as appropriate.
  • Providing daily support for resolving problems related to automation systems supporting office, research, and manufacturing operations.
  • Maintaining program source code and documentation per SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices), and FDA regulations.
  • Providing custom programming solutions as the need arises to address specific automation and reporting problems.
  • Being responsible for maintaining as-built drawings, program, and campus network documentation.
  • Assuring data integrity and backup to provide reliable data for regulatory compliance.
  • Programming automation controllers including PLC/PAC controllers, write validation protocols, implement protocols, and submit the results for QA approval.

Essential Functions:

  • Specifically, the Control Systems Engineer will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, and servicing of Johnson Controls (JCI) building automation systems, which include critical HVAC systems such as chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and compressor controls. This role will involve troubleshooting and resolving mechanical, electrical, and controls problems, as well as performing preventive maintenance. Johnson Controls (JCI) experience includes use of JCI configuration and commissioning tools to perform system-level controller software loads and diagnostics, troubleshooting to diagnose, and repair control system malfunctions, including sensors and actuators.
  • Other responsibilities include design and configuration of building controls systems involving fire, security, and other low voltage control sub-systems. Coordinate and complete drawings, equipment schedules, and factory mounting process to provide information for as-built documentation. Propose and execute cost savings/efficiency projects focused on reducing energy consumption. Also, assist with site-specific training for technicians.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:

  • Bachelor's Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +10 yrs; Assoc.+6 yrs; M.S.+0 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Computer Science or Other Equivalent Majors
  • Pharmaceutical Experience with Control Systems and Validation
  • Experience in Networking and Windows Administration
  • Software Development Experience in Web Programming (HTML, Python, etc.)
  • Inductive Automation Experienced Profession with Proven Mastery with SQL
  • AutoCAD Electrical Experience with Control Panels
