Job summary

Trane Technologies in Minnesota is seeking an experienced Product Engineer to join our Controls Product Management team. You will serve as the technical product expert for building controls, bridging development and field teams to ensure products are easy to apply, install, and support.

You will drive field outreach, author technical literature, lead product training, and manage the enhancement pipeline to continuously elevate the customer experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering with 3-5+ years in HVAC/building automation/controls.
• Strong ability to translate field feedback into engineering requirements.
• Excellent written communication for technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical SME for building controls products to field offices and customers.
• Own and prioritize the product enhancement and feature requests pipeline.
• Author installation manuals, operation sequences, and engineering specs.
• Design and deliver technical training for engineers and partners.
• Lead field outreach during NPI and pilot testing with field teams.
• Monitor field issues and coordinate rapid resolution with QA.

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Product Engineer to join our Controls Product Management team. In this role, you will serve as a technical product expert and champion within our commercial building controls portfolio. You will bridge the gap between development teams and the field, ensuring our products are easy to apply, install, and support. Your focus will be on driving field outreach, authoring high-impact technical literature, leading product training initiatives, and actively managing our product enhancement pipeline to continuously elevate customer experience.

You must possess deep technical curiosity, strong problem-solving skills, and a passion for customer success. By acting as the primary liaison for technical product issues and feature requests, you will translate field feedback into actionable development requirements and ensure our field offices are fully equipped to deliver sustainable, smart building solutions.

What you'll do:

• Product Expertise & Field Support: Serve as the definitive technical subject matter expert on assigned building controls products, providing advanced application support and engineering guidance to field offices, sales channels, and customers.
• Enhancement Pipeline Management: Own and prioritize the product enhancement and feature request pipeline, collaborating with Product Managers and R&D teams to turn field feedback into continuous product improvements.
• Literature & Documentation Development: Author, review, and maintain high-quality technical literature, including application guides, product catalogs, installation manuals, sequence of operations, and engineering specifications.
• Training & Knowledge Transfer: Specify, design, and deliver technical training programs, product demonstrations, and troubleshooting workshops for internal engineers, field support teams, and external partners.
• NPI & Field Outreach: Partner with Engineering and Product Management during New Product Introduction (NPI) phases to lead pilot testing, conduct field outreach, and ensure new offerings are fully optimized for application and serviceability.
• Sustaining Engineering Liaison: Monitor product quality in the field, analyze systemic technical issues, and coordinate with engineering and quality assurance teams to drive rapid resolution and product updates.

What you'll bring:

• Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer preferred) or equivalent technical discipline with 3-5+ years of experience in HVAC, building automation, controls, or technical product engineering.
• Technical Product Mastery: Strong understanding of commercial building automation systems (BAS), control sequences, IT networks, and communication protocols (BACnet, Modbus, IoT standards).
• Pipeline & Requirement Management: Proven ability to analyze technical customer requests, evaluate technical feasibility, and translate complex field needs into structured engineering requirements.
• Literature & Communication: Exceptional written skills with a demonstrated track record of authoring clear, concise technical documentation and translation of complex technical architectures into user-friendly guides.
• Presentation & Training Facilitation: High-energy communication skills with experience developing and delivering technical training curricula and product demonstrations to diverse audiences.
• Collaborative Problem Solving: A self-motivated team player who excels at building bridges between highly technical software/hardware engineering teams and commercial, customer-facing organizations.

Annual Base Salary Range or Hourly Base Pay Range:

$105,228.33 - $168,700.00
