Job description

About Fluidstack

We exist to make humanity more free. For most of human history, you farmed or you starved. Technology gave people more time for the things they wanted to do, instead of things they had to do. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice we've ever built - but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. There are groups building AI who don't share these goals. Whoever deploys frontier compute infrastructure fastest will decide whether AI expands human freedom or shrinks it.

We're singularly focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them - with teams spanning hardware and software. Speed and scale are our key differentiators. Come be a part of building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI.

We hire people who care deeply about this problem space.
About The Role

We are seeking a motivated and technically capable Controls Engineer to support the design, programming, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting of building automation and control systems across our critical facility infrastructure. This is a mid-level role that blends hands‑on field technician work with engineering responsibilities — making it ideal for a strong controls technician ready to grow into an engineering role, or an early‑career controls engineer who wants to stay connected to the field.

You will work closely with the Central Engineering and Operations teams to keep BMS, EPMS, PLC, and equipment‑level control systems running reliably in a 24/7 mission‑critical data center environment — while also contributing to engineering tasks such as sequence development, commissioning support, deployments, system integration, and documentation. You are equally comfortable navigating a BMS front‑end, calibrating a field sensor, or programming a PLC based on a Sequence of Operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on BMS/BAS controllers, field devices, sensors, actuators, and control panels while maintaining accurate as‑built documentation.
  • Diagnose and resolve BMS, EPMS, and equipment‑level control faults using front‑end software and field test tools including multimeters, loop calibrators, and clamp meters.
  • Navigate and configure BMS platforms (Ignition, Metasys, Niagara, EcoStruxure) including point mapping, alarm configuration, setpoint adjustments, and basic graphics updates.
  • Support PLC/HMI troubleshooting, PID loop tuning, trend log analysis, and integration between BMS, EPMS, DCIM, and equipment control systems across BACnet, Modbus, and SNMP.
  • Execute commissioning activities including point‑to‑point verification, loop calibration, functional performance testing, and documentation for new construction and retrofit projects.
  • Ensure full compliance with NFPA 70E electrical safety standards, site LOTO procedures, and formal change management processes including MOPs and CMMS documentation.
Basic Qualifications
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Controls Engineering, Building Automation, or related field — OR equivalent vocational training and directly relevant experience.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of hands‑on experience in building automation, controls, or instrumentation in a commercial, industrial, or mission‑critical facility environment.
  • Working knowledge of at least one major BMS/BAS platform (Ignition preferred, Schneider EcoStruxure, Metasys, Niagara, or equivalent) and control system communication protocols including BACnet IP/MSTP and Modbus TCP/RTU.
  • Ability to read and interpret control drawings, wiring schematics, P&IDs, one‑line diagrams, and equipment data sheets; proficiency with standard field test and calibration tools.
  • Familiarity with HVAC Sequences of Operations concepts, NEC wiring requirements, and NFPA 70E electrical safety and LOTO/LOTOTO procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, solid documentation habits, and ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working in a data center, colocation facility, or other Tier III/IV mission‑critical environment.
  • Ignition certification
  • Basic PLC programming experience (Allen‑Bradley Studio 5000, Siemens TIA Portal, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with EPMS platforms (Schneider Power Monitoring Expert, Eaton Power Xpert, or equivalent) and DCIM tools.
  • CMMS experience (Maximo, SAP PM, ServiceNow, or equivalent) for work order management and documentation.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 General Industry certification
  • Experience with data historian platforms (OSIsoft PI, Ignition, or equivalent).
  • Uptime Institute AOS or equivalent data center industry credential.
Benefits
  • Competitive total compensation package (cash + equity).
  • Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms.
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms.

Total compensation may also include equity in the form of restricted stock units.

We are committed to pay equity and transparency.
