Job summary

Pratt Miller, an Oshkosh company, invites engineering interns to develop and test embedded systems across automotive, military, medical, aerospace and motorsports programs. You will work with seasoned engineers to gain hands-on experience in vehicle electrical architecture, hardware integration, and software development.

Ideal candidates are pursuing BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, or Software Engineering and have a strong interest in learning, teamwork, and problem solving.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical, Mechanical, Software Engineering or related field.
• Interest in embedded systems and automotive/military applications.
• Willingness to work in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Develop vehicle integration strategy for electrical systems.
• Define architecture for power generation, management, and storage.
• Define CAN architecture and integrate vehicle communication systems.
• Communicate wiring and connector requirements to support harness builds.
• Follow industry standards for vehicle electrical systems and wiring.
• Research, select, and source sensors, actuators, motors, energy storage, and other hardware.
• Communicate mechanical requirements of system to project design staff.
• Identify controller hardware to meet I/O and computational requirements.
• Design wiring harness and work with electronics lab to build harnesses.
• Integrate electronic systems into vehicles.
• Interface with suppliers to ensure performance and timing expectations.
• Troubleshoot electrical issues ranging from harnessing to controller states.
• Process and analyze performance and test data and provide insight.
• Develop and support Simulink-based algorithms in rapid prototyping.
• Autonomy development using ROS for perception and path planning.
• Integrate and build prototype systems in development vehicles.
• Calibrate software and validate in test vehicles.
• The candidate must be able to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

Apply engineering experience to develop and test embedded systems within automotive, military, medical, aerospace and motorsports industries. Support and develop such systems across Pratt & Miller’s programs and customer’s projects. Roles and responsibilities may encompass every level of system development from conceptualization and concept proof, through testing and validation, to product commercialization.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Typical responsibilities for interns include, but are not limited to the following items:

Assist Engineers with Vehicle Electrical Architecture by:

• oDeveloping vehicle integration strategy for electrical systems
• oDefining architecture for power generation, management, and storage

Hardware Specification by:

• oFollowing industry standards for vehicle electrical systems and wiring
• oResearching, selecting, and sourcing sensors, actuators, motors, energy storage, and other hardware
• oCommunicating mechanical requirements of system to project design staff
• oIdentifying controller hardware to meet I/O and computational requirements
• o Designing wiring harness and working with electronics lab to build harnesses

Assist Engineers with Vehicle Builds by:

• oIntegrating electronic systems into vehicles
• oInterfacing with suppliers to ensure performance and timing expectations are met
• oTroubleshooting electrical issues ranging from harnessing to controller states
• oProcessing and analyzing performance and test datao Providing analysis, insight, and feedback for development

Assist Engineers with Controls and Software Development through:

• oDeveloping and supporting algorithm development in Simulink using a rapid prototype environment
• o Autonomy development leveraging Use of ROS for perception, vehicle path planning and path following
• oIntegrating and building prototype systems in development vehicles
• oCalibrating software and validating software in test vehicles

Pay Range

$18.00 - $37.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate’s experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
