Job summary

Astro Machine Works in Ephrata, PA designs and builds custom automation equipment. We are seeking a Controls Integrator to design, program and implement control systems for our machines.

You will work with AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, and PLCs/HMIs, integrate sensors and motion controls, and support installation, startup and troubleshooting at customer sites. The ideal candidate has 2+ years in automation programming, a degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, strong

Qualifications

  • Associate’s or Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of automation programming or machine controls experience.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming, especially Allen Bradley.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, sensors and device communications.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
  • Robot programming and pneumatic/hydraulic experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and BOMs using AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical.
  • Program PLCs and HMIs for automation systems.
  • Integrate sensors, servo systems, and motion controls.
  • Support installation, startup, and troubleshooting at customer sites.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure project success.
  • Maintain project documentation and machine operation manuals.
  • Occasionally assist with panel fabrication or wiring.

Position Summary

The Controls Integrator will be responsible for designing, programming, and implementing control systems for custom-built automation machines and upgrades. This position plays a key role in delivering reliable, efficient, and high-performing equipment to our customers across a variety of industries.


Key Responsibilities

Design and develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and bills of materials using AutoCAD or SolidWorks Electrical.


Program PLCs and HMIs (Allen Bradley, Yaskawa, Mitsubishi, etc.) for automation systems.


Integrate sensors, servo systems, and motion controls.


Support installation, startup, and troubleshooting at customer sites.


Collaborate with internal engineering and manufacturing teams to ensure successful project execution.


Maintain accurate project documentation and assist with machine operation manuals.


Occasionally assist with panel fabrication or wiring.



Requirements


Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related field.


Minimum 2 years of experience in automation programming or machine controls.


Proficiency in PLC programming (Allen Bradley preferred).


Working knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, and/or SolidWorks Electrical.


Strong understanding of electrical systems, sensors, and device communications.


Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.


Robot programming and pneumatic/hydraulic experience are a plus.
