Job summary

Vulcan Elements seeks a Sr. Controls Engineer (FAT/CSV) to lead automation acceptance and commissioning for a massive 1 million square foot facility expansion in Durham, NC, with eventual move to Benson, NC.

You will own the FAT/SAT protocols, troubleshoot PLCs, and coordinate program-wide punch items while supporting live controls across equipment. Expect deep automation expertise, multi-vendor campaign leadership, and significant travel up to ~50% during test campaigns, including integration

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field with significant controls experience.
Extensive hands-on experience programming and commissioning Siemens and AB PLCs/HMI.
Proven ability to manage multi-vendor FAT/SAT campaigns and punch-list closure.
Strong knowledge of industrial networks, safety circuits, and wiring standards.
Experience with robotics, vision systems, and MES/SCADA interfaces is preferred.

Responsibilities

Lead programming, debugging, and commissioning of PLCs and HMIs for new and existing automation equipment.
Develop and maintain PLC code, HMI screens, safety circuits, and network configurations.
Coordinate FAT/SAT campaigns, write acceptance protocols, and manage punch lists.
Review vendor schematics, control architectures, and interlock validation.
Integrate robotics, vision, AGVs, conveyors, and motion control with MES/SCADA.
