Job summary

FMI is seeking an energetic Controls Engineer to join the Equipment Optimization Team in Maine. You will lead automation and control system integration from design through deployment, focusing on safety, quality, cost, uptime and cycle-time improvements.

Responsibilities include designing and troubleshooting custom automation systems, leading system integrations, and applying Lean/Six Sigma tools to improve processes while collaborating with customers and external partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Industrial Eng or CS or related field.
• 3+ years in automotive, food, or aerospace OR 5+ years automation engineering in industrial environments.
• Experience with high-rate automated production and motion control systems.
• Experience with PLC hardware and programming.
• Industrial controls and electrical (AC/DC).
• CAD familiarity and proficiency.
• Strong problem solving and process development.
• Familiarity with SDLC and Lean manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Design, improve, document, and troubleshoot custom automation systems.
• Develop, implement, and sustain policies/procedures for technical work.
• Lead integration of new systems and automation equipment.
• Identify, design, test, and document control improvements using Lean/Six Sigma.
• Execute assignments with schedule and cost considerations.
• Collaborate with customers to develop and qualify process changes.
• Design and develop new equipment for future production systems.
• Ensure health and safety policies are integrated early on.
